I would have to go with the one where Beaver and Gilbert watch a gangster movie and see lumpy and bill outside in an unfamiliar car wearing masks and they think that they're gansters that are "gonna croak 'em" They call the police and Lumpy and Bill get arrested, classic. Simply classic.

My favorites by season:

#1. The State v. Beaver.
#2. The Pipe.
#3. Beaver's Bike.
#4. Wally's Track Meet.
#5. A night in the Woods.
#6. Wally's Practical Joke.

This may divert from the topic, but I have noticed that each season seemed to have one episode which dealt with a particular social problem, very nearly to the extent it could not be called a comedy...

#1. Boarding School.
#2. The Grass is Always Greener.
#3. Beaver and Andy.
#4. Beaver's House Guest.
#5. Wally Goes Steady / Weekend Invitation.
#6. Bachelor at Large / All-Night Party.

Each of the last 2 seasons had 2 such eps, and not coincidentally they all involve Wally far more than Beaver, as so many eps focused on Wally having new experiences on the brink of adulthood.

Another episode that dealt with social issues was "Box Ofiice
Attraction". That one was all about peer pressure, drinking and smoking. I always get a kick out of Wally's expression when she leans over and kisses him in the car. That wasn't the kind of kiss he was used to with Mary Ellen Rogers or Julie Foster I bet.

The pipe episode is my favorite and when Miss Landers comes to dinner is good to. i also like one of the eps in the later seasons when Wally and Eddie tie a rope the the rear axle of Lumpys car and the other end to a tree. lumpy gets in the car, drives off leaving the two back tires behind. really funny

Yes, "Box Office Attraction" is at least as much of a near-melodramatic social problem theme as others I mentioned from the final season. "Lumpy's Scholarship" may also qualify in that way. But we should expect that, as Wally and his friends are ending high school and entering young adulthood, that even a clean better-than-reality show like LITB would have some contact with the real issues and drives of American teenagers. The eps we have referred to involve dating and early marriage, taking an unsupervised vacation, moving away from home at 17, and having an all-night party in a situation which to kids means "we're free-- all rules are now off."

The Clothing Drive is one of my least favorites, yet it has that great scene where June acts like Perry Mason at the dinner table. Beaver the Bunny is easily one of the worst episodes of the series, in my opinion.
