Inga Swenson who died last week was nominated for three Emmys as a regular on Benson. She lost out to someone else all three times: in 1982 it was Carol Kane from Taxi (assuming Inga Swenson entered in the lead actress category, she was the most important female character on Benson). There is a problem with this win of a recurring character who was not a regular. I just checked, Carol Kane only appeared in 27 out of 114 Taxi episodes.

I believe it was only two episodes that season, then she became a regular the next year when the show moved to NBC.

Shows submitted a limited number of episodes for consideration, so one or two Kane episodes may have made more impact than five or so from the others. They've changed the rules now, created separate "Guest Actor/Actress" emmys.
