Sometimes, I can be a real bitch with a W.
Happy Almost Halloween! Since I love October, but horror movies scare me, I tend to prefer either a harvest Halloween OR a magical Halloween. So I decided to share six of my favorite atmospheric witch movies/shows to get into the spooky spirit. I very intentionally DID NOT include Hocus Pocus. Because while I do enjoy that movie, the insistent resurgence of it is getting to be a bit much.
My choices include:
Practical Magic
Sabrina the Teenage Witch (and perhaps even The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina)
Witches of East End
Teen Witch
A Discovery of Witches
Charmed
As an honorable mention: The Witches from 1990. I know there’s a remake that was just released, but I don’t have HBO Max. Is it good? Is it worth a free trial?
Please look up the entire “Top That” scene from Teen Witch. I didn’t include the whole thing due to both time and the fact that, even though I’m obviously not monetized, I still try to avoid copyright claims.
Also, I have an ENTIRE RANT about how Hallmark’s The Good Witch (specifically, the titular character whose name is Cassandra or “Cassie”) is the ultimate grown-up Mary Sue. I went OFF about it, but cut it for time.
I also cut a solid minute of me listing other witch shows/movies. Bewitched. Bell, Book, and Candle. I Married A Witch. The Secret Circle. Kiki’s Delivery Service. The Craft. And so on. Do you have a favorite witch movie?
