At the time Who Wants To Be A Millionaire became a hugely popular game show Regis Philbin became internationally known as the top celebrity of the 90's. So he decided to have his own sweepstakes. In 1999 Regis teamed up with Montgomery Ward to launch the Win A Fortune sweepstakes. The sweepstakes debuted with it's own commercial where a woman is seen seated in a fancy dining room while a butler offers her food but when the butler offers a platter of money she takes it and the commercial ends with the butler polishing a huge painting of Regis Philbin. To enter the Win A Fortune sweepstakes people had to go to Montgomery Ward to get an entry form to fill out and if they won the lucky winner got his/her winning check presented to him/her by Regis Philbin himself. This was the final sweepstakes Montgomery Ward had before closing in 2001 but having Regis as a spokesman made this sweepstakes extra special
