We had to read this and write on it for homework in my American Lit class. I think its really mean that they had us read this the first day of school, way too real a reminder that summer vacation is OVER. ughh. Its so sad how fast it went! Anyways, instead of whining more about how awful school is, I thought I'd let the poem say it...

1540 by Emily Dickinson

As imperceptibly as Grief
The Summer lapsed away --
Too imperceptible at last
To seem like Perfidy --
A Quietness distilled
As Twilight long begun,
Or Nature spending with herself
Sequestered Afternoon --
The Dusk drew earlier in --
The Morning foreign shone --
A courteous, yet harrowing Grace,
As Guest, that would be gone --
And thus, without a Wing
Or service of a Keel
Our Summer made her light escape
Into the Beautiful.

Yeah, Emily really wasn't known as a "feel good" poet...
She must have been a big hit at parties.
