Wow, did ABC Network really have much of a choice besides a burial slot against a really strong drama lineup on CBS? If not, then I guess Too Close for Comfort was pretty much deadlocked the moment it started to build itself a good-sized syndicated-rerun package on the level of Three's Company. That most definitely isn't how a network should elevate its next top sitcom (since TCfC aired after TC the previous season).

It didnt have any competition when it aired after TC. CBS aired a movie and NBC aired Father Murphy at 930pm

Didn't they air TCFC right before (or after "Joanie Loves Chachi") on Thursdays nights which also got the ax?

What a disaster they should've kept J&C on "Happy Days" and TCFC in it's original timeslot after the other DL Taffner show, "Three's Company". ABC actually had a pretty good thing going on Tuesday nights. If anything Happy Days is probably the show that was showing it's age at that point. TCFC still had some juice and was able to pull in great ratings for Metromedia once it began airing in first run syndication.

It does make me wonder if ABC was just ready to pull the plug on the show? Who knows but the network was also going thru alot of turmoil behind the scenes They weren't making great programming choices at that time and eventually ended up way behind the other 2 networks in the prime time ratings.
