View Full Version : The reason why Hallmark is skipping some episodes of FOL

I emailed them asking why they are skipping some episodes. They said that they had to check their programming department and will get back to me, but they didn't. So recently I emailed them again. I got an answer. This is their answer.

Some of the episodes are damaged, from age, and are not in good condition. These episodes cannot be aired.

That honestly doesn't make sense, lol, because in November 01, TV Land aired MANY of the episodes Hallmark is skipping. I mean, I believe them if they say this, but it's just weird.

I've e-mailed Hallmark a few times, they reply very fast, and with good responses too. What puzzled me was that when I asked them about other programming coming (Mork & Mindy, Lucy Show, etc) they said this month. I was like, HUH? They're not scheduled. I dunno, I find it weird...

I don't see why they can't air them because of the poor quality of the episodes, but it might not be up to standards and conditions for showing them in sydication, so I see where they're coming from but can't they just restore or renew them? I mean it might take some money and time and also some effort but its worth it.

We all think that but the cable companies wouldn't do that. They love Cheers and Cosby Show. That letter that they sent to you is just them lying to avoid the real reason. They just want to get rid of it as soon as they can, or get to the Beverly Ann episodes as fast as they can since there's no mention of Charlotte Rae anywhere on their site. Whatever the reason is, I know it's not that, cause N@N and TVLand would probably have done the same.

I can see that being a reason, but they still aired FOL Goes To Paris, and those eps. were the worst quality wise yet.

Maybe they taped their episodes off TVLand's Fandemonium and off N@N -- just like the rest of us! :)

I don't buy Hallmark's excuse at all. The show's been aired for over the past twenty years and they got crummy copies of the
episodes?? They probably air episodes of programs that are older than dirt and most likely don't have a problem with those. I smell an agenda going on. (I don't even have Hallmark.) I have a sneaking suspicion it has to do with controversial episodes. Someone check and see if they don't air one considered controversial. I kinda figured with a name like Hallmark (you know, the greeting card company, used to air feel-good programs around the holidays back in the day), this wouldn't be too far-fetched.

That's a bunch of lies! LoL. I mean how could the tapes be damaged, they were just aired on TVLAND awhile ago and they were perfect quality. Hallmark shouldn't make excuses, or they should at least come up with a good one, or maybe that dude was a newbie and didn't know what he was talking about. Oh well, whatever.

Or USA, cause they needed Dope, Breaking Point, Fear Strikes Back, The Front Page, and The Source. ;)

I know, I was just thinking that. I mean, the show's only from the 80's, so how could the tapes be in such poor condition already? They air shows older than FOL (like Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie) and they don't seem to have a problem with them.

You do have a point there. How about shows like The Andy Griffith Show or Gilligan's Island that have shown reruns forever? I know Hallmark doesn't show either show I mentioned, but its the point of the matter.

Pardon me if I'm wrong. I haven't seen too many of the Beverly Ann episodes, but aren't those ranked as the worst ? Usually a big cast change means an immediate shark jumping.

Can you blame Hallmark for wanting to air the Beverly Ann years? The girls looked their best in the last years especially Nancy she had the best hair do next to Mindy. Also Cloris Leachman was very great and funny as Beverly Ann in FOL. I'm glad Hallmarks website doesn't mention Charlotte because she was way to serious and never knew how to make people laugh on FOL. I think she should have gone back to Diff'rent Strokes when she left FOL. For some reason I like her better on DS then FOL, because on DS she was funny. She never was funny on FOL. I hope Hallmark doesn't skip 'Rumor Has It' and 'Post Christmas Card' like N@N did.

If Charlotte wasnt Funny, how did the show last the first 7 seasons? And don't tell me that damn Nancy McKeon cause im so sick of those Nancy Fans gloating how she saved the show. It was a lot of elements. If she wasnt funny, how come they opened up Edna's Edibles instead of Jo's Edibles? And Charlotte couldn't go back to Diff'rent Srokes because it ended in 1986.

I'm so sick of doing this whole Mrs. G/ BA thing BECAUSE...MRS. GARRETT was on the show for SEVEN SEAONS!!! ALL of a sudden they bring out Beverly Ann and BAM! the show lasted only TWO more season...OMG!! I'm surprised they let her contaminate the screen THAT long!!(As always, I am in no way blaming Cloris Leachman, nor am I saying she is a lousy actress, because, I think she must be a wonderful actress...to play...THAT!) And, As always, this is MO...

If Charlotte was an important character then why isn't she mention on the show description on Hallmarks website? Anyways imo I thought the writers screwed up Charlottes character in 3rd season. They made her more serious and I didn't like that. I like the way she acted in seasons 1 & 2. She was very funny. But she could never top season 7 that was her best year. Also Beverly Ann (the character) wasn't that bad. You know there is one episode where I just couldn't stand Beverly Ann and it was 62 Pick Up. She was just to annoying in that episode. I hope Hallmark skips that episode, it really wasn't a good one. Also I'm not putting Charlotte down either its just her character I am surprised she could play that.

I don't think Nancy is that good of an actress to save a show. I think the girls (Blair, Tootie, Natalie, & Jo) saved the show. The relationship between them was really great. They made its fans laugh. Also I am not a Jo fan that much for her to have her own store. :)

I agree. I'll always love Mrs. G and Charlotte, but the writers seriously toned down Mrs. G in Season 3 on, and It just wasn't the same, lol. But overall the entire show was good, and you can't place blame on the actors, because it's the writers fault, obviously.

I don't think the shows sucess depended on one certain actress. It's an ensemble (sp?) cast. It's kind of like All in the Family. If you had only Mike and Gloria without Archie or Edith, then the show wouldn't be as funny.

firstly, I hate to nitpick...actually, I love to nit pick, but, CHARLOTTE wasn't a character... Mrs. G was...

Second, just cause she's not mentioned in a freaking description doesn't mean she's not important...how would the girls have stayed at Eastland had it not been for Mrs. G?? ANswer: they wouldn't have!!! They woulda been thrown out on their butts that day they faked their id's and went to a bar. so...yea..

Third, no one is funny all the time!! I understand that she didn't maybe crack as many jokes after the third season, but, I personally still love Mrs. G after third season...I liked the serious episodes..but, maybe I'm just a drama person...:rolleyes:

Not to mention the fact that there may not have even been a Facts of Life without Mrs. Garrett. After all, the show was a spinoff of DS, and Mrs. Garrett was pretty much the star of the show at first. It was her show in the beginning, because she was the character everyone knew from DS. I'd say Mrs. G. was VERY important, because if it wasn't for her, what show would we be talking about right now?

You shouldn;t ask why Hallmark is skipping episodes of 'FOL". You should be asking why Hallmark is EDITING perfectly good episodes of FOL. When i saw the show on TV Land Fandemonium (which i had the privilege of taping), some parts were there in the episode that were not there on the Hallmark episodes, making them longer. And when they started showing the show on Hallmark, They completely shortened some parts. Here's an example: On Hallmark, they shows the "Gossip" episode. Remember the part where Mrs. Garrett is grilling Tootie about her Gossiping.

They skipped the aprt where Mrs. Garrett says that a lot of people being mad around here, Must be an epidemic, and then tells her that Nancy isn;t talking to Blair and Blair isn;t talking to Jo and Tootie fesses up to blabbing the secret. Mrs. garrett then tells her that the girls might like her gossip, but they would never confide in her or trust in her like a true friend, and it cuts to Tootie saying "I messed things up, didn;t i?" This is seen on the TV land version back in November.

When they showed it again on Hallmark, they just show Mrs. G saying a Lot of peopel, are mad around here, and then cuts to Tootie saying "I messed things up for teh girls, didn;t I?" without even stating to us what she did until the end.

I mean, I know they have to cut for commercials, which are too damn much of anyway, but come on, at least have teh uncut, resotred episodes showing.

I'm sure they will. But the paramount shows should be starting up in January when Bewitched and IDOJ leave, so I'd start recording now (the later seasons) just to be safe. I've taped almost every episode they've aired so far, just to be safe. They were skipping a lot of episodes but they'll probably play them all in the next rotation (I hope). I've tried to keep track of all the episodes I have, but I gave up a month or two ago, LOL (even though we have people giving us schedules, it's still hard to keep track when Hallmark skips eps that don't even need to be skipped). At least they've played the controversial ones (but didn't they skip the exotic dancers one? I can't remember when the episode should air... any help guys?)

What is so wrong with 'I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can?' USA aired it why didn't N@N & Hallmark air the episode? I remember some of the episode and it wasn't that controversial that it couldn't be aired.

I'm sure Hallmark will air it. They aired the other 7 controversial episodes so far. They just needed to skip 5 epsidoes each season from Season's 2 - 5, and that happened to be one of them.
