Svenfan1234 07-22-2023, 01:47 PM I *really* hope this does have almost all unedited episodes as they claim. I will wait for reviews, but if it does, this will truly be the deluxe edition! Looking forward to it!

Per Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALF_(TV_series)):
For the hour-long season 1 episode, "Try to Remember," originally broadcast on February 9, 1987, ALF tries to simulate a jacuzzi by bringing Kate's electric mixer into the bathtub, thus receiving an electrical shock that caused amnesia. Fusco ended the original episode with a public service announcement from ALF himself, warning of the dangers of mixing water and electricity. Despite this, NBC reported that a child attempted to recreate the scenario and nearly electrocuted himself in the process (Fusco confirmed that the child was unharmed); Fusco was forced to refilm the opening sequence, replacing the electric mixer with a manual egg beater. ALF's amnesia is instead caused by a cranial concussion received after slipping in the shower (a "thud" is heard rather than a "zap"), with all mentions of being shocked either overdubbed with new dialogue or deleted entirely (including ALF's public service announcement). This edited version was used for a Fall 1988 rebroadcast, as well as all future U.S. and Canadian syndicated airings.
This opening scene is from the original NBC airing.

I hope so too. I preordered the Lionsgate version when it was first released and was bitterly disappointed when I found out they were syndicated episodes. Fortunately the forum mentioned the fact before the DVD's arrived and I was able to return them unopened. I was quite pleased when the German versions were released and were almost all uncut. Ironically the one episode of the entire series I wanted unedited was "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island" but I figured there wasn't going to be another release so I bought the German set.
I'll hold off ordering this new offering until the reviews are in. Once bitten.

ThisLittlePiggy 09-25-2023, 04:02 PM I love ALF!
AngieTribeca 10-18-2023, 04:05 AM Just got mine and the episodes appear unedited as stated by Shout. I have the German sets so if anything is edited, I'll keep those as a back up
Bachu 10-18-2023, 04:59 PM I think I am right in thinking that the German set has the syndicated episode of the Gilligans episode as well as the cut of the episode where they do not show ALF making a whirlpool in the bath tub with an electric whisker. I am guessing they are the episodes to check.
Do the cartoons look good picture quality wise.
I'm very anxious to know if "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island" is uncut. It should have Alf and Brian singing the song at the start of the episode after the teaser and titles.

I just checked and YES, ALF and Brian singing "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island" IS included on the DVD.

Thanks so much for checking. I just realised though all that means is it's not a Lionsgate version but could still be a German syndicated version as it includes the singing.
The unsyndicated version has Kate slapping Alf on the wrist as he's reaching for an apple pie in the fridge in the opening credits. Could you do one more check please to allay all of my fears.

Yes, Kate slapping ALF's hand as he reaches for the apple pie in the fridge IS in the theme song for this DVD.
There are also two scenes I had to check myself. One of them is "Don't It Make Your Brown Eyes Blue?" where the tag scene has ALF recording Willie singing the Elton John song Saturday Night's Alright. This was cut from the Lionsgate and streaming versions but IS intact on this new DVD release. Also on this DVD is ALF and Willie singing Good Morning America, How Are You? in the episode "Night Train".
After nearly twenty years of having the inferior versions on the market, we finally have uncut episodes! This is a huge deal for fans of ALF.

Thanks again for checking. Much appreciated. I feel confident about purchasing the set now.
Question for all of you who have purchased this new set: The Lion's Gate release of Season 1 had a gag/outtakes reel, the unaired ALF pilot, and ALF trivia facts as extras-The question is, were these extras ported over to the new SHOUT! Factory set, or do I need to hold onto my Lion's Gate Season 1 set?
Wildchats 01-27-2024, 09:49 PM EVERY EPISODE IS THERE! All are uncut! AMAZING!

These are the extras:
INCLUDES:
Every Hilarious Episode Including Restored Footage Not Seen Since Their Original Broadcast
ALF: The Animated Series
ALF Tales
Project: ALF – ALF's 1996 TV Movie Finale
NEW A Look Back At ALF With Creators Paul Fusco And Tom Patchett
NEW "ALF On ALF" – Audio Commentaries With ALF And Tom Patchett For Select Episodes
No pilot or bloopers that I can see. The Lorimar music sting at the end of the international episodes(?) is not present. Not sure of it was on the original US versions.
The commentaries are on the bonus disk for:"A.L.F.", "La Cucaracha", "Working My Way Back to You" and "Some Enchanted Evening." It looks like there are some pop up info bubbles on the episodes as well.
Shame the pilot is not included.
The Lionsgate dvds should be held onto for the interactive menus, pilot and bloopers for sure.
