New Girl gets a lot of flack thanks to its infamous use of the term “adorkable” in its marketing materials. However, while New Girl season 1 does over-rely on Jess Day’s quirky personality, the series comes into its own after sidelining its heroine. Despite the title, New Girl improves when the show stops focusing solely on Zooey Deschanel’s character and starts treating its cast as a cohesive unit. As a result, New Girl is now a hang-out sitcom that rivals shows like Friends, How I Met Your Mother, and The Big Bang Theory.
