They used to have great game shows like Legends of the Hidden Temple (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legends_of_the_Hidden_Temple) and Double Dare (https://web.archive.org/web/20061031125223/http://www.jumptheshark.com/d/doubledare.htm).

From the 80's to the 90's Nickelodeon was known as the top kids channel of cable TV and while they had a variety lineup of kids sitcoms cartoons and other kids oriented programming game shows aimed at kids were few and far between so based on what The Disney Channel did when they debuted their very first kids game show Contraption Nickelodeon decided to copy The Disney Channel by debuting the game show that put them on the road to game show superstardom in 1986 when Double Dare made it's debut and based on it's success Double Dare actually saved Nickelodeon from going bankrupt and by creating different versions of Double Dare such as Super Sloppy Double Dare and Family Double Dare Nickelodeon knew this was their formula for creating great game shows and it's no wonder Double Dare was a successful hit from 1986-1993. Soon after the success of Double Dare Nickelodeon hoped for the same reaction and success with Finders Keepers in 1987 and when it premiered Finders Keepers was a hit but not quite the success that Double Dare was. Then came the debut of Make The Grade in 1989 and though ran for two seasons Make The Grade showed promise but was shortly cancelled in 1991 to make room for Get The Picture which was the debut of former Nickelodeon and Yes, Dear star Mike O'Malley and while Marc Summers was Nickelodeon's game show king Mike O'Malley was Nickelodeon's crown prince of game shows and while Get The Picture was a smart hit it actually was a fun and great game show and moved Mike O'Malley to star in Nickelodeon Guts. While many people thought Nickelodeon Guts was a ripoff of American Gladiators with kids it was actually Nickelodeon's first attempt at sports oriented game shows for kids. While Nickelodeon Guts was a strong hit the 90's brought shows such as Nick Arcade and Figure It Out Nickelodeon knew that game shows worked magic for the network but one 90's game show was actually the show that became a instant favorite of Nickelodeon's 90's game shows and a favorite of mine was Legends Of The Hidden Temple and when it first debuted in 1996 people thought it was a copy of Double Dare with a temple based setting but with newcomer Kirk Fogg joining the Nickelodeon game show host family this show was a smashing success and just as Double Dare had the witty announcer Harvey Legends of The Hidden Temple had the wisecracking Olmec and after it's run in 1999 Nickelodeon knew that this would be their swan song in game shows and they would focus on sitcoms and cartoons. But with their comeback game show Brainsurge Nickelodeon knew that this would be a worthy way of getting more ratings but despite a worthy comeback Brainsurge was cancelled. And ever since then when you get the general picture I think Nickelodeon was more interested in top cartoons and sitcoms rather than game shows because they saw a larger audience interested in cartoons and sitcoms and they thought game shows were too much and they were focused on making cartoons and sitcoms such as Spongebob Squarepants and ICarly they knew that game shows for Nickelodeon was their swan song until the debut of Paradise Run and the remake of Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader with John Cena and I think they were trying to make John Cena the new Marc Summers. It would be cool if Paramount+ added the entire Nickelodeon game show library because shows like Get The Picture Finders Keepers and Brainsurge and Figure It Out need to be seen for a new generation of Nickelodeon fans today

Since the mid-2000s, Game Shows were not fully exposed by Nickelodeon like they used to due to The Revivals of Figure It Out and Double Dare did completely did not work out but the Family version of GUTS from 2008 was a major disappointment while recent newer game shows like Paradise Run, Keep It Spotless & Brainsurge did not have long term success. To Me, Nick GAS was better at rerunned every older Nickelodeon Game Show from Its 1999 debut to Fall 2004(3 years before It left Cable).

I think Nickelodeon got rid of it's game shows for money reasons and started to focus more on cartoons and sitcoms because they saw those shows as better audience attention grabbers. But when Double Dare came out it made a huge superstar out of Marc Summers because prior to that he was a sitcom episode writer for the sitcom Alice but once newcomers like Wesley Eure for Finders Keepers and Mike O'Malley joined the Nickelodeon game show host family Marc Summers was still the king of Nickelodeon by then hosting the show What Would You Do? and I have always found Marc Summers unappealing because he seemed to be funny a little too much and annoying. I think with the Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader reboot and Keep It Spotless Nickelodeon was trying to make John Cena a top game show host and although I am a John Cena fan I think he would do alright as a game show host but as a Nickelodeon celebrity he might fit the job well but in a sitcom. But it would be cool if reboots of Get The Picture and Nick Arcade would happen in the future because those shows are also Nickelodeon classic game shows as well and a new version would work fantastic

I also think why Nickelodeon stopped making game shows was also due to money costs. Take for example whenever an episode of Double Dare was finished filming and taped the whole floor of the Double Dare stage had to be taken apart and cleaned every single time they would finish taping and filming an episode and it would cost Double Dare staff a whole lot of money and the show's producer and creator was afraid that Nickelodeon would cancel Double Dare due to these money costs but Double Dare survived. And by learning these facts it made me realize why Nickelodeon felt game shows cost too much money and so that's why Nickelodeon focused on it's cartoons and sitcoms rather than game shows. But when Nickelodeon would advertise new game shows they would promote the show with a lot of commercials and promotional teasers until it's debut when the show would get big ratings. Like I can't figure out why they decided to have Double Dare 2000? Because when I saw a rerun of it with my dad and cousin I thought it was weird and why they replaced Harvey with Tiffany Phillips as announcer because both her and Jason Harris were too loud but at least Jason Harris made a himself a household name as a game show host in Canada. But also I think Nickelodeon saw these game shows as a way to market merchandise. Like take for example there was a rare Nintendo version of Double Dare from 1988 and a board game of Double Dare made by Pressman and there was also a board game for Finders Keepers and in the 90's a Super Nintendo version of Nickelodeon Guts was made and two board games of Figure It Out were also made. But you NEVER EVER saw merchandise for Legends Of The Hidden Temple during it's run and it tells me that Nickelodeon overpromoted Legends Of The Hidden Temple when it first began and did not have the money to produce merchandise for it. But if Nickelodeon were to develop a new game show someday or have a block of new original game shows it would get Nickelodeon the ratings they deserve

What I think also made Nickelodeon stop making new game shows was because kids were more interested in cartoons and sitcoms than game shows and that's why game shows were no longer seen on Nickelodeon. I think Nickelodeon was hoping to have more successful game shows that would be as big as Double Dare was when it debuted in 1986 but it never happened. What I think Nickelodeon should do is develop new original game shows with superstar game show hosts and put them in a block and it would be a smart idea for Nickelodeon to do and gain ratings. But why they developed odd game shows such as Keep It Spotless and tried to revive Nickelodeon Guts as My Family's Got Guts as a way to hopefully revive the show but it failed mainly because Mike O'Malley and Moira Quirk were absent in that version. But Nickelodeon made a mistake in making John Cena a game show star and by having him host Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader I think they were trying to offer John more chances to host future game shows but it didn't work
