Sarah Jane said she told her husband where to find her when he came back to Walton's Mountain to fetch her after his job hunt and that she didn't go to her mother because she knew her mother would disapprove since she's bossy and overprotective. But then we see a scene with the mother telling Olivia "I didn't tell you everything in the letter. Sarah Jane's gone off and got herself into trouble. She can't ever come home." And then there was that dialogue about "If thy right eye offend thee pluck it out" and "He without sin cast the first stone." and when the mother sees the baby at the end, Olivia says "If you turn back now, you'll regret it for the rest of your life." And John Sr. said Sarah Jane told him her husband was job hunting in Richmond whereas John-Boy was told it was Washington D.C.
Did Sarah Jane lie about having a husband because she was afraid John-Boy wouldn't help her if he knew she was a fallen woman, because this was a rural town in the 30's?
