After the first episode the show was ranked as #4 behind Three's Company, Happy Days and Charlie Angels

By November 1977, it was the highest rated new show of the 77-78 season and never fell below 20 the remainder of the year

During second season, Soap remained in Top 20 and would rank as high as #8 finishing with a overall ranking of 15th which made Soap the highest rated new comedy of the 1977-78 season
