HuntingtonM15 07-05-2023, 04:25 PM It was just this holiday weekend for me. It was 3 nights in a hotel in Colorado Springs and 1 night in Denver. Torgo 07-05-2023, 05:20 PM This last Father's Day weekend on a road trip with my daughter. And again (at multiple ones) this month (July) when Mrs Torgo and I go on our anniversary trip. Caroline13 07-05-2023, 07:23 PM worked my memory on this one. I was checking in and out of motels/hotels from mid 70's to mid 80's. when I was in outside sales in U.s., some of Canada and some of Mexico. I was so jazzed when I left that job and was rid of the life of a salesperson. And it finally came to me, I went to a cousin's big birthday (80th) almost 20 yrs ago.. Stayed in motel not far from Smith Montain Lake, VA for a couple nights. That's been it and a lot has changed in my life. Love being home. Just hearing of the huge hotel vacancies in our city -- a result of the virus Tourists are not coming to what is a ghost town with $500+ per night hotel costs. Hawkee 07-06-2023, 01:43 AM I used to like staying in hotels during family vacations but for some reason I dislike staying in hotels now. Because for one thing why do hotels put neighboring doors in your room? Because to me there's nothing worse than being next to neighbors in the room next door and you have to hear their talking or television turned up loud while you are being very quiet in your room and it sounds odd to me. Another thing I dislike about hotels is when you are trying to sleep and at 4AM you hear guests stomping around and I don't know why hotels let guests stomp and make noise when guests are sleeping? A second thing I also dislike is guests who like to make noise when people are sleeping. Because when I have stayed in hotels I had to hear our neighbors in the other room snoring and my mom and I couldn't sleep because I felt like we had Darth Vader sleep with us. And there is nothing worse than hearing crying infants and screaming kids because when you're in a hotel with kids the kids should at least go back to sleep and not make so much noise waking the entire hotel up. But at least for me and Mom we always liked getting room service and my mom used to enjoy the continental breakfasts at hotels for their blueberry muffins and we enjoyed room service meals a lot. And I like having my own room because I like privacy and my own television and the chance to have a great big bed that I can sleep with my arms stretched like a hawk while sleeping on big fluffy pillows that are soft like clouds and I actually find these types of beds so comfortable that I actually take long naps while staying in hotels and that's one thing I liked when I would go on vacation in hotels TheLittleFaerie 07-06-2023, 05:19 AM In September of 2020 I stayed in one for nearly a month while my apartment was being remodeled Bonniegirl 07-06-2023, 11:32 AM I just recently stayed at HOT L Baltimore !!:D ThisLittlePiggy 07-06-2023, 01:22 PM Red Roof Inn June of last year Caroline13 07-06-2023, 01:55 PM I used to like staying in hotels during family vacations but for some reason I dislike staying in hotels now. I gave up. Dude111 07-06-2023, 05:21 PM I cant remember the last time I stayed in one....... Babalu 07-06-2023, 06:08 PM Our last trip was to Quebec. We stayed in the InterContinental Montreal in Old Montreal. Had a great time with spectacular weather. Next month we are planning to go to several New England states. We have reservations at 4 hotels in different locations. Ohio8 07-06-2023, 07:52 PM The beginning of last November. My brother stayed at a motel in Mayfield Heights, Ohio for one night. JamesG 07-06-2023, 07:53 PM My most recent was an overnight stay in Long Island when I was a groomsman at a friend's wedding. That was back in October 2022 at Inn at Great Neck. Over $500 a night?:confused::rolleyes: That's CRAZY! I went to a Days Inn in 2011, and I spent like $200 for two nights! I went on a three day cruise in 2014 for about $350! Penny Lane 07-07-2023, 06:38 PM Way back in the early 70's. We didn't travel much back then but later on we started camping and never stayed in motels. The bedbugs are included in the bill. May as well take ’em home. Hawkee 07-08-2023, 01:29 AM The worst motel experience was when I went to Texas and my mom and I were visiting my grandmother who recovering in the hospital after having surgery and we checked into this motel thinking it would be nice so after we returned from visiting my grandmother my mom and I went back to our motel to unpack our luggage when my mom started hanging our clothing in the closet and she freaked out and I asked Mom what had happened. And she found a big cockroach in the closet and there was more of them everywhere. And we were stuck there for the night because it was like midnight and there was no other hotels and motels that took guests at midnight and so we decided to check out in the morning. And the bed I slept on was uncomfortable and the bedding felt wet like sweat and I couldn't get rest at all. So the next day we complained to the manager and got our money back and we ended up going to a Marriott Residence Inn which I liked a lot. And I happen to like Marriott Residence Inns because they are so nice and have a nice breakfast and you get a great value for the money Babalu 07-08-2023, 07:33 AM The bedbugs are included in the bill. (Shocking and disgusting)! Thank God your Grandmother wasn't recovering in that motel. At first, I read it as your Grandmother was recovering in that motel! You had to pay to sleep with a bunch of big roaches! :eek:puke: And the bed was uncomfortable and felt wet on top of that! At least you got your money back and went to the Marriot and had a NICE experience! :) ThisLittlePiggy 07-08-2023, 11:06 AM The bedbugs are included in the bill. Hawkee 07-15-2023, 05:26 AM I used to like hotels when my mother and I would travel but then we quit going on vacations and we didn't travel often much. But for me a hotel or motel has to be quiet and peaceful and not so noisy. Another thing that has to make a hotel perfect for me is a comfortable bed and comfortable pillows. Because when it comes to hotel beds I am like Goldilocks and I dislike beds that are so hard and uncomfortable that I cannot move around to get comfortable. Pillows in a hotel have to be extra soft and I love pillows that are very plush because when you rest it feels like sleeping on a soft stuffed animal but I don't know why hotels nowadays have these big enormous pillows that when you lay down they are hard and uncomfortable. But my mother and I like Marriott hotels because you can get a lot for your money's worth and great service. And another hotel chain we liked "don't know if they still exist today" was AmeriSuites and they were impressive and you could get great service at a good price. But I cannot figure out how motel chains like Motel 6 and Days Inn manage to remain in business because they seem to be popular but people seem to like them Caroline13 07-15-2023, 02:18 PM I used to like hotels when my mother and I would travel but then we quit going on vacations and we didn't travel often much. Many people have needs for all hotels/motels and they have their finances.....The Motel 6 is $70-83 in a city back East another member told me. So maybe those are nationwide prices and not Motel 6. Caroline13 07-15-2023, 02:23 PM So, what about you? You started the thread but didn't contribute your travel history. I find that is the M.O. of Opus, we don't hear his experiences in posts he starts... But then I so seldom see posts started by Babalu. Interesting to sum it up. biffbronson 07-15-2023, 11:00 PM I worked for 2 hotels in the late 1990s, doing mostly maintenance and plumbing installations. I also had to drive the van for one of those. On ND football weekends, the maids were really pushed to their limit. It was interesting work at night especially. Sometimes hookers were visiting. It surprised me that people who were not well-off financially, at all, were booking pool parties for their children (birthdays celebrated at the indoor swimming pool). My parents would never think of spending money like that on me when I was growing up. |
