An I Love Lucy July 4th:
(The Ricardo’s and Mertzes are in the Ricardos stateroom.)
Ricky: “I said no to you buying fireworks so you can take part in the shows July 4th celebration.”
Lucy: “But Ricky, I promise you that I won’t crash your show like I did a couple days ago. Come on, Fred is gonna give Ethel money to buy fireworks.”
Ethel: “Are you kidding Lucy?”
Fred: “Ethel, you can do without the fireworks.”
Ricky: “Nothing doing. Come on Fred, let’s go to rehearsal.”
(They leave.)
Lucy: “Come on Ethel. Let’s go look around Mexico.”
(Later that night in July 4th.)
Ethel: “Lucy, Ricky is gonna be awfully upset since you bought those fireworks cheap. Are you sure that they are legal?”
Lucy: “Of course I am Ethel. That merchant on the street looked as honest as the day is long. Since the Captain said that it is ok, we will surprise Ricky who is performing right near the pool. Let’s get them ready.”
Ricky: “Friends, I want to wish you all a Happy July 4th. I, being Cuban, am very grateful for my adopted home country. I came out of Cuba and into the USA and couldn’t speak the language but I was welcomed with open arms. So now, let’s get started.”
(Crowd claps. Lucy fires off the cannon crackers and fireworks. They misfire and hit the part of the ship which causes it to catch fire, some other ones land in the pool which causes Ricky and the band to get soaked. Lucy has an “ewwww” look on her face. Ricky sees this and is SEETHING. The ship captain comes by.)
Captain: “Lady, did you get those fireworks from a guy on the street who looks like this?”
(The captain shows Lucy the picture.)
Lucy: “Yes.”
Captain; “What you just bought were illegal fireworks and cannon crackers. You are going to jail and going to pay a hefty fine but you will be allowed to stay on board and be locked in your stateroom when you get out of jail.”
Lucy: “I can’t pay it. I don’t have the money. Ricky?”
(Ricky starts yelling at Lucy in Spanish…where he says “illegal fireworks and cannon crackers.”)
Ricky (yells): “WHAT DID I TELL YOU?”
Lucy: “Ewwww.”
(The end.)
