In soap operas I have never understood why American soap operas last a long long time and it surprises me that American soap operas aren't like telenovelas because it seems that Univision and Telemundo's telenovelas start with a story then they have a big grand finale and then the week after a new telenovela begins. And when I have seen telenovelas with my mom I wonder why American soap operas don't do this too? It surprises that The Young And The Restless and General Hospital are the longest running soap operas in America and I think America should design soap operas in the telenovela styled format? The last soap opera I remember that did this was the ABC soap opera The City and it worked wonders for ABC. And I think why there hasn't been soap operas like these in America is because I think American soap operas continue so long is because the writers develop cool storylines to keep the story flowing

If they were to make American soap operas be more like Spanish telenovelas more soap opera fans would watch them because the format that Spanish telenovelas uses is simple with a beginning story then more to the storyline is added then they have a finale as their ending. And when I watch these telenovelas with my mom I cannot figure out why American soap operas don't have this format but instead they last a long time? Is this simply because American and British and Australian soap operas are better than Spanish telenovelas because they are cheaper to make?
