I was watching an episode of Forensic Files and it covered the "I-5 Strangler" and one of his victims was a woman that was picked up hanging outside of her car with her boyfriend. The boyfriend essentially pimped her out to the strangler and she wound up being found 4 months later. For awhile, the boyfriend was a suspect. IIRC, there was a very similar UM segment from one of the later seasons where a boyfriend and his girlfriend are hanging out at some slum motel, a payphone is involved, and the boyfriend was a suspect, but was later ruled out when they found the real killer. Is this a Mandela effect thing or was this a real segment?

Not sure if this is the one you're looking for, but I can think of a similar one where a husband and wife were arguing at a payphone, she hits him with the phone, and he leaves. Then she is later found dead and it wasn't the husband, but a stranger she had been joyriding with who claimed she fell out of the car and died so he disposed of the body:

That's exactly the one I was thinking of, thank you!

That story is s good reminder that just because someone seems like the prime suspect there's always an outside chance it's someone else.

A rare segment that was solved before it was actually filmed and featured.
