View Full Version : Wouldn't there be no oxygen in the basement for the fire to feed off of?

Hi guys. I finally saw the oh-so-controversial "May We Make Them Proud."

I can understand why so many dislike it but I think what they miss is the concept of unconditional love and forgiveness as represented through Mr. Ingalls when he went looking for Albert after he ran away out of guilt just like he did with John Jr. in His Father's Son and Laura in The Lord is my Shepherd. He had every reason to hate and resent Albert but he chose to take the highroad and bring him back because he knew the lifelong guilt that would follow Albert was punishment enough. The only thing that really bothered me was Mary forgetting to get her child out when she was sitting right next to him as the alarm was sounded. I would have had everyone get out, then Alice go back inside to get the little boy stuck in the bathroom and then the flames chase them into a corner. Then we would still have a great story but the tragedy would be staged better. Because if she were near a window, she could easily have broken it with a piece of furniture and jumped out.

Anyhow, I was wondering, how probable is it that a pipe in the basement could start a fire of that magnitude? The basement is sealed off like the cave in "To Live With Fear" (Season 3) so I would imagine there wouldn't be much oxygen for the fire to feed off of. IMO, in real life, it would spring up for a couple minutes and then go out.
