For quite a while, KVII (the ABC affiliate in Amarillo, TX) refused to air All My Children except for the following times:

July 1975-April 1977: 11:30 AM (on a one-day delay from Jan-Apr 1977)
April-September 1977: 12:30 PM (on a half-hour delay)
September 1984-September 1988: 11:00 AM (on a one-day delay)
September 2000-August 2002: 1:35 AM (yes, the late-night hours)
September 2002-September 2011: 11:00 AM (on a one-day delay)

For quite a while, KVII would just clear more syndicated programming and already had a noon newscast by 1970.

It really depends on the affiliate. The Twin Cities ABC affiliate (KSTP) didn't air Loving, The City, or Port Charles because the time slot ABC wanted was already filled with KSTP's midday news broadcast. KSTP aired All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospita.

I think this was pretty common with soap operas. The NBC affiliate here tape-delayed Another World for years. It can cause problems sometimes when the network airing is pre-empted by breaking news.

Loving - Stopped airing on KVII in 1986 (aired at 12:30 PM from 1984-86)

The City - Never aired on KVII.

Port Charles - KVII aired the first year (June 1997-June 1998) on a tape delay at 3:00 PM, never aired at all from June 1998-Sep. 2001, aired at 12:30 PM from Sep. 2001-Sep. 2002, and was gone again in Sep. 2002 when KVII expanded its noon news to a full hour.

KSTP's midday news show is an hour long and goes from 11 am to noon CT, then All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital would air in that order. Now General Hospital is in the 1 pm CT time slot here in the Twin Cities. KSTP was also not good at rerunning pre-empted episodes at later time slots, either.
