While many of us know Janet Jackson as a singer and TV star in 1993 Janet Jackson made her film debut in Poetic Justice and this movie proved how great Janet's movie acting was. Poetic Justice was also best known for using Janet Jackson's hit ballad Again in the trailers and was created by the same creator as Menace II Society. And the Poetic Justice soundtrack gave TLC their first ever movie soundtrack hit in history too

I saw that movie and thought Janet's acting was not too good. She seemed very one dimensional as for the lack of better word. And don't mention Tupac Shakur as has was even worse actor than Janet in that movie :D

Why I think Poetic Justice became a moderate hit was because it was meant to give Janet Jackson a strong movie debut. Because at the time Janet Jackson was scoring hit after hit from her 1993 album Janet and when Poetic Justice was offered to her Janet knew that this film would make her add Hollywood actress to her career as a second hobby. Because when you look at R&B singers some do acting as a second hobby to make them more well known. Look at Jill Scott and when she released her debut album Jill became a huge star and then she made her acting debut in The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series on HBO and then starred in Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married along with Janet Jackson. So I think Janet Jackson was very smart to take the role in Poetic Justice because even though some people thought her acting was weak it was a starter movie to get her movie career going
