View Full Version : How Did You Become a Fan?

It's good to see there are fans of this show from different parts of the country. Being from NC, watching this show was pretty much a rite of passage. I can relate to this show so much! But I wonder how people from outside the South have become fans. What was the draw? And at what age did you start watching? Where did you first see it?

I think this show will be around for years to come with newer generations of fans. Of course I don't want my kids to watch it until they are at least 16. I'm concerned about the right influences during their growing up years. But when I have mature enough kids, I hope they watch.

I live in the south too, but decided to answer the question anyway. At first, I hated this show. When I was younger, it was all that my father watched. When I got a bit older, I started to like it.

I think I'm the diehard Andy nut now instead of my father. lol

I shouldn't have written that the way I did. I didn't mean for only people outside the South to answer. In fact, I think your reply is quite interesting. I bet you're probably from the younger generation who grew up long after the days of black and white television. Perhaps the reason you didn't like the show was because you didn't want to look at anything in B&W and because the later color episodes you might have paid attention to were so boring? For me, I've never given it a second thought whether a show is in B&W or not, I watch for the quality of the show, not the color of the screen. I guess that comes from growing up at a time when a lot of TV was in B&W. So I was able to watch those enjoyable B&W episodes. It's when a color episode of Andy comes on that I turn the channel!

I didn't mind it being in B & W. I grew up on a bunch of old shows, but I can never put my finger on why I hated TAGS when I was younger. I guess since dad watched it all the time, took up tv time for me and what I wanted to watch.

I still love old shows to this day. It's a running joke in my family that I'm stuck in the 60's when it comes to what I watch or listen to.

I agree with you about the colored Andy episodes. If its in black and white, I'll watch it. If its one of those color episodes, I do the same thing you do.

This was a good topic by the way! :)

Thanks! Now next topic, Mayberry R.F.D. On second thought, no! Let's not even go there! Mayberry wasn't Mayberry unless Andy, Opie, Barney, and Aunt Bee were ALL there!

That's one of the main reasons I disliked Mayberry R.F.D because of the fact that all the good main characters weren't in the show. The only two episodes that I liked on Mayberry R.F.D was the episode where Andy and Helen finally got married and the episode called "Andy's Baby".

Im a semi-fan and from the North!:D But seriously, my Dad like, LOVES that show, but I find it kinda drip. Anyways, I am like a DIE-HARD Happy Days fan and am like obsessed with Ron Howard thats like the only reason why I watch it! lol But I do like it more than I used to. Its a simple show which is comforting.
