View Full Version : Anybody have the blu-ray set? tlc38tlc38 06-04-2023, 06:59 PM Just wondering if the quality is better than the dvds and how is the packaging? kentauros 06-05-2023, 06:38 PM I have no idea about the packaging because only the video quality is of any concern to my needs. Plenty of videos on YT about the quality, including some of the more educated reviewers complaining that Mill Creek likely just upscaled DVD files to Blu-ray. That would not generate better quality, but worse. The images I've seen from the Blu-rays looked too smooth, and too much contrast. There's a thread around here of similar reviews. I've also seen various home-theater forums give detailed reviews about the quality. Because of them, I haven't bothered buying the Blu-ray set. If they had used the original film stock from the vault instead, it would have been a different story. But, megacorps only do that for the singular most popular shows, and even then that's a crapshoot on whether they do so or not. They seem to prefer spending their money on streaming shows versus producing physical media. tcr1701 06-07-2023, 05:23 PM The general consensus on the Home Theater Forum (which has some very informative comments) is that the IDOJ Blu Ray looks "good" only when compared to the old DVDs. But it is not a true HD upgrade from master copies. There seems to be only some simple color enhancement here and nothing more. I did notice that Larry Hagman's Air Force uniform is almost slightly purple instead of blue in many shots. Mill Creek did not use HD transfers of the series at all. Some episodes look brighter and "cleaner" than the DVDs, but others are still rather dark and murky. The packaging is nothing special. More episodes are crammed on each disc so it takes up less space that buying each season individually. |
