Especially considering how huge (https://jacksonupperco.com/2016/08/10/dynasty-the-80s-personified-best-of-season-one/) it was (https://apnews.com/article/2d928eca55cdd5e7d77f03ada67edf27) in the '80s (https://tvaholics.blogspot.com/2014/02/classic-tv-ratings-and-rankings-1984-85.html), especially with some of the provocative things they were doing (https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/dynasty-the-golden-age-of-80s-tv-excess/).
Could it possibly be because once other shows caught up (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/Dynasty1981), it lost its edge? Could it also be because Dynasty (http://www.tellytalk.net/threads/what-went-wrong-with-dynasty.1089/) by design, is a hard show to rerun/syndicate (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynasty_(1981_TV_series)#Syndication) because you have to see each episode to get a proper gist of what's going on?

Oh I don't know where to start. Yes, it lost its edge, to put it mildly. The idea of an ex-spouse gaining revenge was good, Alexis owning the studio on the Carrington estate was a touch of genius and lent itself to some humorous scenes amongst the tragedy, but I doubt some of the storylines would be acceptable today (Blake's homophobia leading to the death of Ted Dinard, Blake raping Krystle, Adam raping Kirby). The exit of major characters replaced with other actors didn't help, Krystle visiting Alexis at the office and scriptwriters having Alexis bring Little Blake a present seemingly every week as an excuse to get her into the mansion also fell flat, as did the panic to include an ethnic minority character with Dominique becoming Blake's sister. The plot rallied somewhat at Series Nine as wooden Emma Samms finally came out of her shell, but by that time the show was fatally wounded and it was a relief to all when time was called.
