View Full Version : CHCH TV - SUMMER 2023
With Canada's Fall Upfronts starting in a couple of days, which I will cover when they happen, and summer almost upon us, you can look for CHCH to make a few minor changes to their retro lineup, beginning next week. Change appears to be inevitable as their current lineup has certainly grown stale over the past month. It includes that awful "Pictionary" game show, three drama series that are painfully dull ("Matlock", "Hawaii 5-0", and "Dynasty"), and a few sitcoms that are long past the shark-jumping stage: "Happy Days", "Laverne and Shirley", "Andy Griffith", and "The Beverly Hillbillies". All of these series are within 1 to 3 seasons from the end of the line, with "Matlock" mercifully reaching the end next Thursday morning.
That will lead to the first of many changes that are sure to follow. On Friday, June 9th, "Matlock" will be replaced at 10:00 am by back-to-back episodes of "I Love Lucy". Lucy's 1:30 pm time slot will be filled by "Gilligan's Island". I don't know how long that arrangement will last since CHCH doesn't normally allow sitcoms to run back-to-back for too long before replacing one or both of those slots for other shows. We'll have to wait and see. I would rather have seen back-to-back Gilligan episodes but I'll take this for now. It's a nice improvement from what they have today.

KatieAnn 06-02-2023, 06:29 PM Read an article about CHCH doing a "sneak peek" of their fall schedule. This is what was written about the daytime schedule:
"Also joining the lineup as part of the daytime fan favourites are classics like Three’s Company, Mad About You, NewsRadio, and Silver Spoon."
The Indienet video preview had Hawaii Five-0, The Lucy Show, The Love Boat, Dynasty and I Dream of Jeanie in their preview, but none of the shows mentioned in the article. Pictionary is also in the preview, so it looks like that's back for another season.

The "Sneak Peek" article has a video at the top of the page which is slightly different than the Indienet video. The Retro section begins after the one minute mark. If you look carefully - and quickly - you will see "Three's Company" flash by.

Only show that I am looking forward to is Newsradio - that hasn't aired anywhere in such a long time. Three's Company and Mad About You have been on other channels until recently.
And I really don't want to see The Lucy Show again or I Dream of Jeanie.
Everyone has their own tastes when it comes to retro shows, and CHCH never pleases everyone.
JetJam 06-10-2023, 12:53 AM It’s good to see them adding some new shows. With NewsRadio and Mad About You they are adding their “newest” shows yet to daytime.
CHCH Fall Media Kit 2023-24 (https://www.chch.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/CHCH-MEDIA-KIT-2023-2024-FALL-V2.pdf)
The new CHCH Media Kit is out for the new 2023-24 fall season and, as usual, they're being very secretive with their program selections. The daytime schedule is found on page 31 and it is a heaping pile of nothing. It lists "Pictionary" again back to back at noon sandwiched tightly between the Retro Morning and Retro Afternoon block. To get a general idea as to what you may find in those blocks, you can turn to page 33, which lists the following additions to the fall lineup without any specific times given:
NewsRadio, Three's Company, Silver Spoons, Mad About You, The Brady Bunch, I Dream Of Jeannie, Matlock, Family Ties, The Love Boat, The Lucy Show, The Andy Griffith Show, Cheers.
Also of note: Bonanza is gone on weekends, LIV Golf is back, and ER (George Clooney and Co.) will be on at 5 pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
So that's what's coming this fall. When they're coming is still to be determined. I will let you know when it happens.
DEH55 07-11-2023, 10:18 AM Not too excited about these additions. Although I haven't seen Silver Spoons since I was a kid. That's a rare one. Three's Company has been on other channels for years so I am pretty sick of that show.
Donna-Marie 09-02-2023, 04:45 PM Why did you take Bonanza off? You left in the beginning of season 5. I can't stand done if the shows that are coming on. I Love Lucy has been on too long. Flying Nun and Brady Bunch are all too repetitive. Not interested in these shows. Please bring Bonanza back, even just to finish the series.
