80sTrivia 05-24-2023, 03:35 PM Superstar performer Tina Turner, who rocked stadiums around the world with her incredible performances of classic songs such as "The Best" & "What's Love Got to Do With It?" has passed away at her home in Switzerland at the age of 83. :(
I was fortunate enough to see her live in concert during her "Farewell" tour some years ago, and it was one of the greatest concerts I have ever attended. So grateful to have seen her perform live.
This is her obit from the BBC...

I looked to make sure you or JamesG hadn't posted it yet, as you are both so quick in posting these events. I just happened to have the news on and it broke in live with the headline of her passing, and it hit me right in the stomach... :( :( :(

Hawkee 05-25-2023, 01:23 AM The first time I discovered Tina Turner was when I bought the Missy Elliott single Super Duper Fly and noticed a song called The Rain "Super Duper Fly" which sampled a song called I Can't Stand The Rain which was originally sung by Ann Peebles and so I researched more about the song and found a cover of I Can't Stand The Rain performed by Tina Turner and I just liked it. I then for Christmas 2001 got Tina Turner's album Private Dancer and my version of Private Dancer was a special edition with bonus tracks that debuted in 1997. I bet many of you had a copy of Private Dancer when it came out in 1984? But when I listened to my copy of Private Dancer I could see why people liked it a lot and it's no secret why that album was a big seller in 1984 because Tina not only shows her talent but she can rock and be tough as well. I was impressed with Private Dancer that I got her greatest hits album Simply The Best at a thrift store and liked it too and that album is worth the money because it has a 90's dance version of Nutbush City Limits that is great. Another album that caught my eye was the Break Every Rule album from 1986 that I was gonna get at CVS once but then it disappeared and I never got it since. I think in rock music Tina Turner really showed her stuff well and she grew to be a role model for many rock and soul singers including Taylor Dayne but the singer that does sound like Tina today is Melissa Etheridge because they both have identical voices and they sound great

stevea 05-26-2023, 01:44 AM Interestingly, I heard a quote from her on the news that she did not like "What's Love...?" Never was one of my favorites, either.
Proud Mary, though, what a song, but I'm sure she had nothing good to say about Ike.

No, she didn't like What's Love Got To Do With It when she first listened to a demo of it. But I think after the production and recording of it, she thought it sounded good. But I never liked it.

Dianne3 05-30-2023, 03:46 PM I am also a big fan of Tina Turner. I was also saddened by her passing.
It's her 2nd act that started in the 1980's that I remember. I remember that during that period is when she talked about Ike. Other than her marriage to Ike, she didn't talk about her private life.
So, I was shocked to learn that Tina outlived her 2 biological sons.
