Networks Making Last-Minute Changes for Fall
Sunday August 25 10:25 PM ET

With the fall season launch just weeks away, the broadcast networks have made a few last-minute tweaks to their rollout plans.

CBS, for example, has opted to push back the series debut of Monday night comedy "Still Standing" by a week to Sept. 30; the network will air back-to-back original episodes of "Everybody Loves Raymond ( news - Y! TV)" on Sept. 23 instead.

CBS executives say they hope to give "Still Standing" one extra week of promotion; the decision to double-run "Raymond" also guarantees the network a large audience lead-in for the premiere of "CSI: Miami" that night.

CBS will also delay the premieres of Sunday night comedies "Bram and Alice" and "Becker" a week, shifting them to Oct. 6. Instead, the network is airing the broadcast premiere of "Mission: Impossible 2" that night starting at 8:30.

And given the network's extended football coverage, it became apparent that "Bram and Alice" and "Becker" would get a more proper launch the following week.

NBC, meanwhile, has opted to air two episodes of freshman comedy "In-Laws" on Tuesday, Sept. 24, pushing the seventh season premiere of "Just Shoot Me" to Oct. 1.

Fox announced that this week's Wednesday episode of "American Idol" will be expanded to one hour and air at 9. The episode will include profiles of the three remaining contestants and the announcement of the two who will vie for the grand prize one week later.

And ABC has finally settled on what to call its new Tuesday night John Ritter comedy, which premieres Sept. 17. Having opted midsummer to start referring to "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" as simply "8 Simple Rules...," the network has now restored the show's full title, which is based on a book of the same name.
