Producer Norman Lear may very well have been the first prominent woke scold in television. As a producer and show creator Lear dominated the early to mid 1970s with hit shows such as All In The Family, Sanford and Son, Good Times, The Jeffersons, Maude and One Day at a Time.
These were socially conscious comedies that addressed social concerns head on but not so much that they ruined the comedy. Well, at least not entirely.
