As I keep rewatching the show since it was a childhood favorite “yeah I’m young”. I can’t but think that the writers made the main characters the way they did was to make us see their mistakes and how they affect them in the long run. For example Joan choosing success over happiness and love. so she has been in this mindset of a college student where you have to make those social sacrifices to get the career she wanted. but got stuck in a loop of putting her career before anything and that need and want for success basically drove her to go crazy. and she also is an example of tell me your friends I tell you your future. yeah I’m talking about her ride or die since 4th grade Toni. now we all know how she loves herself some materialistic stuff. and that rubbed off on Joan. it’s just she values more acceptable things like fertility statues and the Feng shui of her living room. just because she’s more low key and not running a new 17k purse in everyone’s face doesn’t mean it’s not a problem for her. “another example Maya’s wedding Joan wanted it to be her’s and called everything ghetto or low class. She reminds me of a lot of my moms friends who was always worried about us kids spilling things on a $2000 area rug. “When jujutsu (Ik it’s not his real name but it’s my favorite gag of the show)and the cable lady kids broke her stuff” well I notice now they in the same shoes as Joan In a success but dead end job and unhappy and not happy in their love life either and just like Joan get jealous of things like my mom getting ahead in her love life just like how Joan basically went into a permanent state of calm rage from the time she found out toni was getting married I have more to prove my theory with the other girlfriends and the love apocalypse but what do you guys think?
