View Full Version : Was John Amos from Good Times really the weatherman on Mary Tyler Moore? I guess i have to see that one day- Yes he was. He left after a few seasons, obviously, to do Good Times. He is most visible in the early seasons (1-2). He also appears in Inside TV Land, if you get a chance to see that. Hope that helps! Kristen TVFactFan 08-24-2002, 06:13 PM Originally posted by Kristen Yes he was. Kristen I have to see that-i now have to check the TV LAND schedule for MTM and see what season they are in-thanks for the info Kristen 08-24-2002, 08:32 PM Since TV Land is in about Season 4, I should probably let you know that John is also in an episode of the 6th season called "Hail the Conquering Gordy", in which Gordy returns to WJM for a visit after he becomes a success in a talkshow in New York. Kristen Well that makes sense because if john amos returned to MTM as a guest star in season 6, that would be around 76 or 77 when he was fired from good times-so i will be on the look out for that episode on TV LAND SOAPDYNASTY 08-25-2002, 12:29 AM Originally posted by SOLOMON I heard that John amos was a weatherman on the newscast of MTM-i really can't see him on that show as hard as i try. No he didn't apper in every episode but if you like john it's still nice to see him when he is in the MTM show:lol: buddy love 08-25-2002, 09:31 AM yeah, John Amos was Gordy for the first two seasons and he was very good in the part which was a semi-regular stint (such as Phyllis who also didn't appear in every episode, though not as prominient as the Phyllis character). But Gordy was likable and a good straight man for Ted's antics. I didn't know John Amos had been fired from "Good Times"? I recently saw an interview with him where he said he quit becuz he disagreed with where the program was heading--with it's emphasize on Jimmy (JJ) Walker and all that. Luckily he was a talented actor who landed on his feet with Roots, several tv and feature films, and now on "The West Wing". As for JJ we can occassionally catch him on "The Hollywood Squares". Actually John Amos was having contracts disputes with the producers but he mentioned that he was fired over the phone because he was considered a disruptive factor to the show SOAPDYNASTY 08-26-2002, 04:04 AM Originally posted by SOLOMON Actually John Amos was having contracts disputes with the producers but he mentioned that he was fired over the phone because he was considered a disruptive factor to the show John Amos seems like he was a good guy about it all but i wish he was never let go from good times ....
