View Full Version : Duplicate Posts
I'm seeing a number of double posts and threads this week. I'm not sure what's causing it. There's been some periodic slowdowns in the morning hours. I rebooted the server the other night to see if it would improve things.
If you make a post, it's likely going to make it into the database eventually. You don't need to click the submit button twice. If you don't have the patience to wait, maybe you can open up a new tab or window.
stevea 04-22-2023, 10:32 PM When a quick reply is delayed, which has been happening more often lately, sometimes it ends up going in twice, and i always wait it out. I'll delete my duplicates and any others' on boards I moderate, but I think some posters just don't know how to do it (it's easy to do).
I’ve never made a duplicate post.

Bonniegirl 04-23-2023, 12:35 AM I admit it , sometimes I get impatient and hit send a couple times if my post doesn't go through right away !
50 lashes with a wet noodle for me!! I'm showing my age here , but does anyone else remember Dear Abby? Sometimes she would give bad advice to a letter and get called on it, had had to retract her advice. She would say " 50 lashes with a wet noodle" or maybe she said 30 lashes ? I can't remember ? Anyway I used to get a kick out of her ! And Ann Landers too! I miss Dear Abby and Ann Landers!
stevea 04-23-2023, 05:12 AM Yes, and her successor's column is still called Dear Abby. I think it's her daughter.
After waiting at least a couple of minutes the other day, I finally did dump out altogether. 50 lashes for me, and my post ended up in cyberspace someplace. Just as well, it wasn't a very good post anyway.
Dude111 04-24-2023, 06:38 PM I’ve never made a duplicate postHmm you seemed to have there buddy...
EDIT:
I notice the threads are not updating again when you view the base indexes...

Crazy coincidence, right? I most certainly didn’t do that on purpose.
However, if you look closely, you’ll see they’re not complete duplicates. So my statement still stands as correct.
Dude111 04-24-2023, 11:42 PM Well I suppose we'll let it slide :)

I get the posts sent to my e-mail. I have the receipts. You must have edited it seconds apart. The second post didn't have a period.

I'm not sure why so many of Yong Fang's posts are double posting. Maybe he has a poor connection.
Caroline13 is making some duplicate threads and posts also.
Well I suppose we'll let it slide :)
Got 'em. :)

No editing. Just made one post, posted it, then made another different one. The no period was a clue for sharp-eyed readers. It was an attempt (unsuccessful I guess :)) to be amusing.
Do you get EVERY post at the site sent to you or just the threads you sign up for?

Well played in that case. Your ironman streak of no duplicate posts continues. :)
I get every post made on the site as a moderator, except for my own. I used to get my own posts before I upgraded the software a few years ago.

If you subscribe to a forum, you can get every post (except maybe your own I think) sent to your e-mail.

Do you get notified about every deletion too? For example, last night in the hockey thread I saw a post I wrote a few days ago, had second thoughts and decided "No, that's dumb", and deleted it. Would you know I did that?

I don't get notified. I can view the deleted post and the reason if one is given. They are only soft deleted. I could restore them if anyone ever wanted them back if they were deleted by mistake.
142,003 posts have been deleted (or are missing and not included in the totals) if you go by the post numbers.
Chocolate Moose 04-25-2023, 02:11 PM isn't the default to get notifications on all posts?

The default is to get e-mail notifications for threads you create or post in. It can be changed in the User CP.
Dude111 04-25-2023, 02:38 PM I get every post made on the site as a moderator......Your not a mod Todd, your the admin remember :)
icecream 04-25-2023, 05:03 PM There are duplicate posts everywhere lately, one from rusty spike on the Night Court board.

It seems to be running a bit better in the last 24 hours.
If the duplicate posts continue, I'm going to submit a trouble ticket in the next day or two. There might be too many open connections or sockets. Something is not right with it the last week or so. It has timed out when I tried to connect to the FTP. That hasn't happened before.
