When they became popular Kenner was one of the largest toy companies in the world second to Mattel and while they were best known for Star Wars toys Kenner tried their hand at making fashion dolls to compete with Barbie by Mattel starting with Darci Cover Girl in the 70's and with Darci a bestselling fashion doll Kenner knew what could sell well to girls. Following the success of Darci Cover Girl Kenner pressed their luck and created Dusty who was launched with her own commercial in the 70's. When you see the Dusty doll commercial you can see that Dusty was known as a sporty doll and with her friend Skye proved that you could do any sport well. Dusty and Skye came with their own sports accessories and you could even buy additional fashions for Dusty and Skye too from tennis outfits to hoodies and even track suits. Although a huge seller Dusty and Skye dolls left store shelves in the 1980's and are highly collectible today.
