View Full Version : Why does the passing of time usually make bad things seem less bad?

Why is it the further in the past a bad thing happened the less sever it seems to be?

Like if you're a 9 year old kid and you break your mother's best china dish and hide the fact and she finds out a few days later, she's probably gonna be REALLY MAD, you're probably gonna get punished, lectured, etc..... BUT if you're now 29 and your mom finds out that you broke her plate 20 years ago and hid it from her, she's likely not gonna be mad, in fact she might even LAUGH about it

Yeah duh, and I wonder WHY life is as it is sometimes.... I'm curious as to why if my friend stole 20$ from me yesterday I would be p*ssed off, BUT if my friend told me he stole 20$ from me 15 years ago, I wouldn't be SO upset
