That may be so, but back in the '60s most women expected and were expected to be housekeepers. Although in their wealthy Beverly Hills circles, that was less so. I doubt that Mrs. Drysdale cooked many meals.

After thinking this over, as attractive as Elly is, I don't think I would care to put up with all the critters around the house all the time, especially Skipper.

It's part of the comedy.... like Granny calling Elly an "old maid".. no one on the planet would see her as an old maid

I actually know ladies who are animal lovers similar to Elly Mae, and with some allergies such a number of animals could get to be a bit much.

Plus with normal homes a fraction of the size of the Beverly Hillbillies mansion, the animals could get to be annoying.
