Ronny G 06-12-2023, 01:22 PM That's probably one of the many reasons why the show isn't seen in syndication today. Some of the language is dated, and if the racial stereotypes were seen as negative portrayals of Chicanos back then, imagine how they would be viewed in today's "woke" society. Plus there's only 88 episodes, and then there's the death of the main star during production which changed the format somewhat. The underlying message that two people of different age and race can get along and form a friendship kinda gets lost in the translation.

I think the show was a bit overrated and dont understand how it ranked #4 in the country after season 1. I also think the show had a lot of female fans because they wanted to see Freddie Prinze. It can be aired on a digital channel once a week on the weekend to stretch out the 88 eps so the show will stay fresh

It had a very strong lead-in in Sanford and Son. Also, you couldn't overstate how hot Freddie Prinz was as a performer then. It would have been like Eddie Murphy taking a sitcom in the early 80s instead of going into movies. Prinz seemed destined to be a huge star.

That probably had a lot to do with it since both shows was in same based in same city. Still weird they never crossed over since it was both NBC shows in LA

If there was an audience then for it they I don't see why it would be a problem now. Look how often S&S and others like them have been in reruns.

I totally agree, that's why I've been baffled that it hasn't been shown on TV more often in reruns on Antenna TV or Me-TV, etc. The good news is: the streaming platform known as Tubi has since added the show to their site so hopefully it will find its audience!

The final 26 episodes (I think that's the number) were done after the passing of Freddie Prinze and his untimely death hangs over the show like a black cloud, so I don't know if a marathon would work. In the series network days, the rating nosedived after the first season, and I don't believe it performed well when it ran in the past.
The good news for those who want to see all four seasons, the show is currently available on TUBI.

Well it couldn't of been that bad otherwise it would of been axed after the 2nd season.
Plus do you really think those who watched it then would still have trouble watching it because of Freddie's ending his life? Gosh that was so long ago!

I agree with your statement, I call that the fatigue factor, how long does it take for the viewing audience to tire of the series.
