In the 1970's Ronco came up with the coolest invention that became an instant family favorite as well as a favorite of everybody. That invention became known as Mr. Microphone and to market it a fun commercial was made. As you can tell from the commercial Mr. Microphone actually broadcasts your voice through the radio and it sounded pretty amazing for a product. While the commercial remains a classic of Ronco commercials the most famous scene of the commercial featured guys driving their car telling their crushes "Hey Good Looking We'll Be Back To Pick You Up Later" that remains a classic catchphrase of Ronco next to "Set It And Forget It" And Mr. Microphone was a favorite microphone of choice for singers to use for performing concerts. Mr. Microphone is no longer on the market today but it sure paved the way for karaoke machines to become popular and although there has been microphones like Mr. Microphone that are sold today the original commercial and Mr. Microphone itself is a fun reminder of days gone by

I was about 8 or 9 when this commercial was out. OMG I begged to get one. I did get one but it never worked like the commercial. It did not work on our home radios and would only work in my dad's car. But it also picked up the engine noise and was pretty lame and nothing like the commercial. I would have to take the orange sponge part off and my voice was louder than what was on the radio. I was so disappointed :(

Yes they were garbage. Sounded like crap. The rare chance it actually worked I would have a echo. Definitely not a good product.

Glad I was not the only one. This is when as a kid I learned that advertising was misleading. I was so disappointed my microphone did not work like the guy in the convertible on TV :(

Yes, but did you ever try it in a convertible. I didnt. Maybe we needed convertibles for it to work. Haha

I wish we could have all done a commercial on how they really worked. I remember trying on all the radios in the house with horrible results. The only place it barely worked was my dad's 1978 Honda Accord. You could hear the transmission shift more than my voice on the radio. :lol:
Many years later in the early 80s, cordless telephones became popular. My friend's cordless phone would broadcast on the radio if you put the dial to the end. It worked perfectly and we could do prank phone calls for everyone to hear on the radio. I remember thinking that I wish Mr Microphone worked as good ;)

BTW, the guy in the commercial walking and dancing down the street and singing with a radio is hilarious.
