Just curious, but I've had my read only system set up to auto log-on here for the past couple years. Never a hiccup.

But starting mid day yesterday, now I have to manually log on each time I visit.

I'm not so much looking for a "solution", as I am curious to know what was changed to cause this situation?

I've encountered similar situations in the past at other sites, always solveable by allowing a new log -on to overwrite the previous. But I've always wondered what is happening at the host end that causes this?

I've had this happen once in awhile--it happened once recently. Most often, it means for one reason or another you've lost the cookie on your computer.

It could possibly happen if you miss a day or two on Sitcoms, and log onto Sitcoms today. Then if you clear today's history, you clear the cookie. I think I have this figured out, but only for Macs/Safari browser--I don't know about other browsers.

I'm sure those are both valid and plausible explanations, but I'm fairly confident that neither is the case for my current situation.

I/m a bit of an oddball with the way my system is set up. My entire system is set to "read only", so even "changes" or cookies that I accept are only written to memory, and are completely lost when I reboot. (great virus protection strategy).

When I first installed this system, I logged on to SOL while the system was still writable, allowing the log-on cookie to be set, and that log on has worked flawlessly for over a year.

Further, I made two copies of that working install, and threw the spares in a drawer as back ups.

And both my everyday system as well as my backups BOTH lost their ability to log on, yesterday.

While I won't contest that it's entirely possible that I could somehow screw up and cause a problem on my everyday user system, it's highly unlikely that an identical problem would occur at the very same time on my backup as well. Just too much coincidence.

More likely, some housekeeping on the host machine is the culprit... Just curious if such might have happened yesterday, hence my post.

There are marketing aspects where forcing all clients to accept new cookies represents an opportunity to the host. most normal users go though this without even realizing it's going on. The lingo is "enhanced cookies".

My unique configuration just kind of sifts those occasions out of the sand, so to speak.:cool:

None of the board settings were changed. The cPanel control panel for the server will occasionally auto update, but I don't think that would be a factor.

Are you talking about it not autofilling in your user name and password? Chrome has an Auto Sign-in section under Password Manager. Maybe one of your settings got changed. It's probably a browser or cookies issue.

Some of the browsers like Chrome get updated pretty regularly. I noticed they recently added a Performance section, which closes inactive tabs to free up memory.
