Reported by New York United Press International in 1975. I guess when Abe Viogoda was offered his spinoff first, Gregory Sierra probably decided to leave the show altogether leading to his 1978 show AES Hudson Street.
I see Fish was never a hit, do yall think a Chano spinoff would have been better?

Wow, the show had just started in January.
I think sitcoms were changing pretty quickly then, turning away from ethnic and other topical stuff. My guess is that a Chano spinoff at that time would have been pretty topical, and would have failed quickly.

No. The world wasn't ready for Chano as a lead at that time.

I think the timing for a Chano spinoff in 1975 was perfect, but doesn’t mean it woulda worked. Chico and the Man was a top 5 show at time. Probably woulda been a better idea than Fish.
