Hi,

Can anyone tell me why the show ended?? and whatever happen to the rest of the chico and the man cast?? like Jack albertson who played ED, Julie Hill who played Monica, Della reees, Gabriel Melgar in the last season of Chico and the Man. I have visited several of the Chico and the Man sites, and also message boards and none of the cast are not even listed or talked about. I know all about Prinze suicide but i would like to know what happend to the rest of the cast?? All i see here are the post all about freddie prinze. Any info about the cast please post? Thanks! :)

You're right! There's not much talk about the rest of the cast. As for me, I really don't know what happened to them.
I know Jack Albertson did several guest spots on a few shows afterward, but that's about all I know.
I've seen on a few messages people wondering about what happened to Gabriel Melgar, AKA Raul, but I've never heard anyone say.
I've never seen anyone mention Julie Hill, AKA Monica, so I'm no help there.
And Della Reese, well all I know is Touched By An Angel along with several movies.

Hopefully one of the more informed members here will be able to answer your questions better!:D

I have no idea where Gabriel Melgar (Raul) is. Isaac Ruize (Mando) works for a dental company in Tuscon, AZ. Scatman Crowthers died in 1986, I think. Jack Albertson died of cancer in the early 80's. Della Reese used to be on a tv show in the 80's called THE ROYAL FAMILY with Red Foxx but he died during the shows run & like with CATM the show went downhill after his death & got cancelled. & Yep she's on TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL. Also she's a preacher as well & has her own church. Ronny Graham is dead now I forget when he died. As for the rest of the cast I am unsure as to what they are up to now. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the question. I see many here have done a good job on the what happened to... Part of your question. The only thing I have to add is that Ronny Graham was known for his writing abilities on many sitcoms of the 70's and 80's including probably his most famous stint as a writer on M*A*S*H. (He also guested on this show at least once.

The question why the show ended is a bit harder to answer, because you could find many opinions on that. I think it was due to the fact that, even though creator James Kolmack did not have anyone in mind initially for the part of Chico, when he set his sites on Freddie Prinze for the part, it was molded to fit Freddie's stand up style of comedy. This evolved the chemistry that Freddie and Jack Albertson built into the part over the almost 3 seasons they were together on the show. When Freddie died, the chemistry was missing, and many believe that Jack lost a best friend as well as a partner. The chemistry could never be recaptured, as much as they tried, with Gabriel Melgar. What ever the reason, the ratings fell to all time lows in the 4th season and NBC pulled the plug. I guess the viewers knew it wasn't the same without Freddie.
