Star Trek: Insurrection undid First Contact's gains for the TNG film franchise. The following movie, Star Trek Nemesis, never really had a chance.

I am a big fan of Star Trek. I have seen every episode of the first five series (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT) but have not seen all of Discovery (because I find the series hard to follow and dislike most of the characters, bad storylines among many other things). In my opinion I hate the animated show. I have wanted Trek to have a good animated series for years, but this show, in my opinion, is awful, terrible and bad.

I have seen all the Star Trek movies. For me the TNG films are the weakest and not worthy of me rewatching ever again. Inserrection was like a bad TNG episode. Picard did have sort of a love interest in this (and she was an attractive woman) but the film went nowhere. Nemesis could have been interesting, but the whole thing was silly, a guy who was genetically engineered to be a young Picard who turned into a madman of sorts and whatever happened there.

I saw a video on Youtube a while back which criticized the TNG films because they were "action flicks". While "action" is an important part of any Trek show, it isnt all of it, or even a big part of it. Whoever decided on these movies decided on making them big "shoot em' ups" with a villian and go from there. Nemesis was idiotic and not a good way for the TNG "crew" to go out. But now we have Picard Season 3 which has been OK and kept my interest but is full of plot holes. It is like and probably is that most all the writers of these new shows have never seen the old Trek series and learned from that.

Trek doesnt work well in a movie format. Most old school fans like myself agree (and can be seen easily online) that the best TOS films were the even number ones. II, IV, and VI. But I liked all of them although the odd ones were a bit weak. II, III and IV were a trilogy. Fans have sort of changed their minds about V a little bit, only because the current offerings are dreck.

Trek fans complain like people complain about Saturday Night Live. People will still watch Saturday Night Live but it isnt what it used to be. Something has been lost in the translation and the new writers are not in keeping of the older shows and the older formula.

Enterprise was the first Trek show I hated with an open passion. Cant stand watching Scott Bakula in anything. Enterprise even had the nerve to revisit themes from First Contact when ratings were failing. The Next Gen movies were let downs, but like the old show, the Next Generation cast is at least likable. I won't touch the new streaming Trek shows with a 100ft pole.
