I've never used Microwave Popcorn and don't own a Micro oven, but I'd bet money most here do....I never heard any positive things about micro popcorn except how convenient. Here is some info to Think About.

Talking about this topic on another group and unlike here we have discussions going. I've made the comment and it's my Truth, I would not even own/cook with a microwave oven if THEY paid me a $1M, I don't need the money that badly....Damage my good food with microwaves, no way, no how.

The presentation was about potentially harmful food ingredients and artificial sweeteners. Unless I missed something, the doctor at no time said anything negative about microwave cooking itself. Likely because people worldwide have been cooking safely with microwave ovens for decades, and they are found in nearly all households that have electricity.

The only thing I believe my microwave ever ruined was a glass bowl that wasn't Pyrex. Sorry but I don't think you'll find anyone else at this site who believes microwaving will "damage" their foods. We'll see.

Well, I believe Millions use microwave ovens and get more and more EMF's constantly... I I know many who don't use them and for the same reasons EMF's....we both know a small amount of people in the major scheme of the population.....

And for millions "safely" using Microwaves worldwide, you don't know this, how many have cancers blooming in their bodies from the EMF's...

And for talking to this Forum, I know who I'm talking to and know their lifestyles.

Did you grow up with a microwave Biff, did your parents survive on them? I'm thinking Many here grew up with them since most are a lot younger than me...but not in my home or relatives or anyone in my generation grew up with those ovens...

I don't like the Microwaves inability to brown meats....perhaps someday somebody will perfect a combination microwave/air fryer capable of both. Then I'll be really impressed.

And, after having one as a child in the house I grew up in, went years without having one...never really missed it. But have been using one out of convenience the past 6-8 years.

They are great for soups, or reheating carry-out food orders after getting them home. And melting cheeses, making sauces if you don't want to bother with cleaning up a double boiler, the microwave fills that niche rather nicely. But I'd never marry one.

Not a lot of use for microwave popcorn, don't like the yucky oil they package with it, seems to turn rancid.

Best use I've found for a microwave oven is to cannibalize it for it's innards, and make a wood burning toy.

In the furniture shop I worked in up until retirement, the owner had me rig up one of these, and the customer appeal they generated was amazing. Rebuilding an armoire or a cedar chest, and etch some of these lightning bolts on the face of it, really popular.

We got our microwave oven when I was 9. I'm now 58. My mom and grandmother did most of their cooking on gas stoves and continued to do so.
But a microwave was (and is) very useful for heating water or re-heating leftover soup, etc. This isn't about survival - both of them lived well into their 80s. The microwave was not essential, but it was a very useful appliance.

Some frozen foods are "microwave only" for cooking, so a conventional oven is not always an option. I'm concerned about cancer as much as anyone. But nothing has been proven as to the harm you're referring to.

I just don't believe you'll be able to convince the posters here to abandon use of a microwave oven. The doctor who you've linked to in this thread didn't advocate that, did he? It's admirable that you want to give us helpful info, but the people here have yet to indicate your anti-microwave stance is one they might pick up on.

I replied because the doctor was talking about ingredients, wasn't he? Not the act of microwaving. So I believe you've taken his micro popcorn mention and used it disingenuously to purport he's against those ovens. That's all.

People have been eating microwave popcorn for almost fifty years now and in and of itself has never killed anyone. It has been around since the 1970’s.

I like popcorn but don’t eat it much because it is just a messy enterprise. Where I live currently I cannot buy microwave popcorn and will use oil in a pan and put the seeds in it and put the lid on. Not a bad method.

With microwave popcorn, I need to stand but the microwave and watch the seeds “pop” and as soon as I stop hearing the sound, pull out the bag. If not, I am afraid the popcorn will burn. But even microwave popcorn doesn’t impress me much, because a lot of times a third to half the seeds won’t “pop”. The oils that are used are also funky, which might be the overall health concern.

Popcorn in an air machine without butter is actually healthy. Why not? Did ancient people ever just eat popcorn as food? I guess this crop came from Native Americans.

One 1970’s thing I missed out on was Jiffy Pop. That has always seemed redundant anyway, just get a frying pan, a lid and some cooking oil. But I don’t know.

Yong Fang, to say it never killed anyone. you have no idea if that is so. It could very well have attributed to many deaths from cancers, brain issues and lordy knows what else.

About the only concern I have for microwave ovens, is the potential for lapses in quality control on the budget brands. Where getting a working unit on store shelves at the lowest possible cost, might over ride fit and finish, or shielding.

Every now and then I catch myself standing right in front of a unit while it;s cooking, and admonish myself to get away from the spectacle, just because.

A couple years ago I had an el cheapo, that ultimately burned a hole through the metal bottom of the cooking cabinet, there was some metal terminal right beneath the hole, and the microwave would periodically churn up la sustained arc between the power head and that terminal.

When it would do this it would completely destroy my wi-fi connectivity in the next room.

So, that forced me to contemplate that it might be unwise to assume "all is well" unconditionally.

But yeah, I still use one

Are you referring to doctors like "Dr. Sam," whose presentation you linked to for this thread at the start? And agree with? Or are you just talking about the ones you happen to disagree with?

You can't have it both ways -- originally you based the thread on a doctor's opinion that microwave popcorn has harmful ingredients, now you say "Doctors NEED sick people..."

"How naive" -- I don't appreciate the condescending tone. I've taken Electrical Engineering at the 4-year university level and hold a Bachelor's of Science. I don't want or need further study on EMF. (EE is something I would never major in, it's Mechanical for me.)

Do you really think millions of people around the world would microwave everyday if they believed it wasn't harmless? You have been following unqualified people on the radio who are out to make a buck, and will say anything to prey on people's fears in order to do so.

This is your thread, so please go ahead with the final word. You seem to welcome debate, but when someone disagrees, you dismiss them very casually. And in the case of the poster who talked about a particular soda, you immediately jumped in rather rudely to tell him (and me) basically it's just harmful chemicals.

When I was a child of the 1970’s, my parents and I would have “popcorn night” on the weekend, usually Saturdays where we would simply make popcorn and watch TV. I was (and am) an only child and this was fun. The 1979’s popper was a crock pot type thing and then the pump shaped model of the 1980’s

I do remember my father coming back one night from a trip (he was an airline pilot) in the late 1970’s and telling me that he saw microwavable popcorn for the first time and he was amazed by it. It was a pretty cool evolution.

For me, I rarely make it, I love popcorn but it’s a mess to make. I don’t have a popcorn machine so I end up putting some oil in a pan, heating the oil and then adding the seeds until it pops. When I do make microwave, I make sure to stand close to the microwave so when the popping stops, I get turn it off before it burns. But then you might end up with a bag that is a third seeds or if too long, a little bit of black on the popcorn. It is sort of an exact science. But for me again, it’s just a mess, give me my Doritos.

If microwave popcorn caused brain cancer, there would be an epidemic of brain cancer. Microwave popcorn has been around almost fifty years. What is the oncologist supposed to ask someone with the news that they have brain cancer “Did you eat a lot of microwave popcorn?”

If one comes from a life of microwaving that is what they believe. I don't come from there and have read enough on EMF's that I want no part of that machine.

I love my microwave popcorn. I give it an extra 10 minutes because I won't eat popcorn unless every kernel is popped.
