The cameramen always seem to get me cause when these old shows first come on it really looks like the show is being filmed where it's supposed to take place. Like for example Laverne & Shirley took place in Milwaukee & so did Happy Days & i used to think it was really filmed in Milwaukee just like Cheers takes place in Boston & i thought it was filmed there. I've seen the real Cheers bar in Boston when i went to visit Boston in 92.

The outside of the bar they show in the credits and right after was really shot in Boston, I believe.

I live in Boston, and it looks and feels like it's being filmed there to me sometimes. The are frequent Boston references. A character will say, The Public Garden, Boylston Street, Comm Ave, The Boston Garden (former name of arena for Boston's concert and sporting events) etc. I often think when I'm watching that viewers from other parts of the country have no idea what these references mean. It's sort of like being part of an inside joke. I think the creators, the writers, someone involved, has Boston in their history. There are also continuous mentions of Boston's sporting teams as well as guest appearances by Boston's sport's players.
Even the Mayor of Boston paid a visit to Cheers. :D

I know what you mean. They always make reference to Beacon St. as well, and it makes me happy they kept the bar actually on Beacon St. I believe they've also made reference to Tremont St... and possibly another street I can't put my finger on. It always makes me so happy though, because I can relate to all those things. One thing that struck me as odd though, was Lilith making reference to "Boston General"? Maybe you can help me, JanLady, whereas I was only a little girl at the time that was aired... was Mass General ever Boston General?! LOL! When she said it I was like, "Wait one moment..." LOL Or IS there infact a Boston General I'm oblivious to?????

Also, on that note... both Cheers are celebrating Cheer's 20th Anniversary... are you going? LOL I'm going to try to get in... I want details on it. I think it's somewhere on the official site. I also have to get in to see Tadpole again at the Copley Center! I'm so psyched!

Lol, no there's no Boston General. I don't know, but my best guess is a legality issue? Maybe not. I'm making no sense.
I won't be attending any of the anniversary festivities in Boston. Long lines and big crowds are not for me. It's for the young and adventurous ones like yourself, not for the over 40 set like yours truly. ;)
I'm sure you'll have fun. Will any of the actors be there?
