It looks like the new show is on regular film and the old was on videotape or a different format. Is that right? If so I prefer the original format used for comedy like Barney Miller, Welcome Back Kotter, and original Night Court!

The original was definitely videotaped (at The Burbank Studios)

Other than Disney maybe, no sitcoms are shot with that "live" videotape look anymore. That trend began with All in the Family and ended in the 1990s.

All in the family was ALL ANALOGUE Stevie so when you saw it on tv in the 70s,you were seeing analogue glory :)

The advent of digital (https://boards.straightdope.com/t/questions-about-videotaped-v-filmed-sitcoms/628079) video in the 2000s singlehandedly ended the prominence (https://www.quora.com/Why-were-a-lot-of-sitcoms-from-the-80s-shot-on-video-tape) of TV (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/archive/index.php/t-392119.html) shows (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/archive/index.php/t-198345.html) shot on videotape (https://www.radiodiscussions.com/threads/what-happened-to-videotaped-looking-sitcoms.684474/). While videotape's lower costs and faster turnaround made it more practical than 35mm film (http://boomerbust-scooter63.blogspot.com/2009/04/videotaped-vs-filmed-sitcoms.html), it was also limited to a specific look and resolution (https://www.hometheaterforum.com/community/threads/older-tv-shows-preserved-on-tape-and-their-resolution.333375/). Film, meanwhile, could be remastered for better-quality displays, allowing shows on the latter to fare much better in reruns. With digital video, not only were the practical advantages even greater than videotape, but it could also be processed to closely resemble film, resulting in it becoming the dominant medium for TV production by the 2010s.
