Watched a documentary on the origins of the game last night, which are a lot more complicated then "someone created it and it went on to become a success".

There are tons of different versions of the game now, including some based on TV shows. If I get a chance I'll try to dig up a list of the TV ones.

We started watching a Monopoly documentary (I'm not sure it was the same one you have here) and turned it off after a few minutes. It seemed to be geared towards tournament players. I still have my original game, although it's not in the best condition, to say the least. I think the price was $1.69.

We still play it. We have a vanilla one, but also Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings.

I fact that I find interesting is that “The Monopoly Man” had a name. It was originally Uncle Pennybags though that name didn’t come until later as the character had no name at first.

He officially became Mr. Monopoly in 1999 as that’s what people were calling him, nobody said Uncle Pennybags. The character was also based on the likeness of J. P. Morgan.

There was also the more recent "Monopoly Millionaires' Club" (2015-16) which was a companion to the scratch-off lotto ticket.

I have a Monopoly game on an old IPad. It is an exact replica, it was free and wish I could transfer the game to my present phone. The game is no longer on the Apple Store, although there are knock off games. It isn’t the same.

I read somewhere that buying Boardwalk and Park Place really isn’t that advantageous because it isn’t landed on that much by other players. For myself, I want to get at least one property of every color to keep the opponent from putting houses/hotels on it, and then refuse trades or selling until everyone has bought everything.

I like the cheaper properties of light blue, purple and orange.

Some people put money in Free Parking, and if someone lands there “wins” the money. That isn’t in the rules.

I hate the “doubles” rule, where if someone roles “doubles” they get to roll again. That would be my house rule, no doubles for free rolls. My game on my IPad has the “doubles” rule and it is annoying.

My cousin told me years ago that he and some friends played Monopoly with real money, at 10 percent the value. I would think that would have been an expensive game but the winner would clean up. Also concerning gambling, “Monopoly” is a popular slot machine in casinos.

I think what would be cool is to have Monopoly of different cities in the country. The problem is that people who lived in the purple and light blue area would get mad. Makes for interesting conversation.

Two things, don’t get high or drunk and play monopoly. If you are high, you will zone out and not pay attention, or just rattle on with your baked opponents making the game longer. Don’t get drunk because people will talk nonsense to each other, then insults and before you know it, two large, bear sized Italian men are having a physical altercation to the death with the wife of one of them jumping on his back. Don’t talk about being under the boardwalk with something in your sister’s mouth.
