Spending his final days in hospice with family and friends. When I was a D party person I liked Jimmy, he was a good humanitarian, and many thought he was weak. I didn't see that or didn't want to. He's 98.

I was referring to the Politics boards being closed. I posted in that thread I'm the one who moved it, as it was originally on Chit Chat. I hope Jim isn't too mad with me.

I don't believe Jimmy will make it to 100, hospice is the final home for those very close to their end. People are kept as comfortable there until it's over. 100 would be Nice for the history books along with Peanut Farmer turns President.

Carter is by far the longest surviving President after leaving office. He passed the previous record holder more than 10 years ago. The Presidents who hold the top 5 positions on the list all have one thing in common, they held office for one term or less. Clinton who held office for two terms is in 6th place. If he survives until the late spring of 2026 he'll crack the top 5.

A very special shout out has to go to Harrison Ruffin Tyler, he never served as President but his grandfather did and Harrison is still alive. His grandfather became president in 1841, his name was John Tyler who was born in 1790!! Harrison is 94 years, he old born in 1928.

What I was referring to is not the oldest President but the President who survived the longest after leaving office. Hoover survived until October 1964, he left office in 1933 so lived 31 years after leaving office. Ford is next at 29 years, Bush comes after that at 25 years 314 days, and rounding out the top 5 is John Adams also 25 years 122 days. Interesting sidenote, John Adams the 2nd President and Thomas Jefferson the 3rd President died on the same day 5 hours apart, the date July 4th 1826.

At this point Carter has survived 42 years and still counting after leaving office.

Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale hold the record of the longest living President and Vice President duo. Mondale passed away a year or two ago, in April of 2021 at the age of 93.

What is interesting to me is that Ronald Reagan who succeeded Carter was the oldest President at 69 when he assumed office but has slipped to third behind Trump at second and Biden. However, Reagan could be seen as the second oldest since he was older than Trump when he left the office.

Rosalynn Carter is the second oldest first lady, the oldest was the late Bess Truman at 97. Mrs. Carter is 95 and will have to live two more years to beat the record.

Their oldest son Chip will be 73 years old in April. Pretty amazing to have a child and watch that child grow up to their 70's! I have always wondered what the record was of the oldest child of a living parent. The late Senator John McCain died at the age of 82 and his mother outlived him (she lived to an incredible 106 years old).

I love history and Presidential history. History and Social Studies were the only classes in school I liked.

Ron DeSantis of Florida, who will probably run for President, was born when Carter was in office.

I've known direct descendants of 3 past U.S. presidents, and all had the same last names as their ancestors:

In grade school, a girl in my classes was related to President John Tyler. She had an unusually narrow face, just like John.

In high school, a guy in my classes was related to President Warren Harding. He was a blond guy like Warren.

And I later worked with a guy related to President Millard Fillmore, though I didn't note any resemblance.

Tom Hanks is related to Abraham Lincoln, through his mother, Mary Hanks Lincoln.

Lincoln's great great grandfather was John Hanks (1680-1740), who was Tom's great great great great great great (X6) grandfather. So Tom and Abraham are Third Cousins seeveral times removed. There are other Lincoln offshoot family, since the family has been in America since the 1600's. There were other Lincolns, who were politicans in New England in the 1700's.

I have researched the genelogy of my family online. My mother's family is a near mystery, I only knew her mother, his father died when I was young. Even from that with free genelogy research cannot find anything about them, except my maternal grandmother's mother's name (my great grandmother) whose name was Milligan which makes me part Irish, to my glee since I can enjoy St Paddy's Day as an ancestor and not an outsider. But I only know that because of a birth certificate my parents found when they cleaned my grandmother's house when she died.

I can research my father's ancestory literally to the Norman Invasion of 1066, and my distant ancestor Thomas Andrew(s) (my last name is Andrews) was the Sheriff who oversaw the execution of Mary Queen of Scots in the 16th Century since the castle/prison was on the lands our family controlled since given to us by William the Conquerer in the 11th Century. My line lasted about another three generations before moving to America in the 1600's.

It would be fascinating to know the decendents of the Presidents. Lincoln has no decendents know (we think). His great grandson (Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith) was the last of the line but may or may not have fathered a child with a woman, and although the man, who is still living today carries the Lincoln name, will not submit to DNA testing.

It's an interesting story. John Tyler's first wife died in 1842, Tyler, at 54 years of age remarried in 1844, in this day and age it would be referred to as an age inappropriate union, his second wife was only 24 years old. Tyler as it turned out was a bit of a hound dog, this second union produced seven children that was to go along with the eight children his first marriage produced. We will now turn our attention to his son Lyon born in 1853, in this case the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Lyon's first wife died in 1921, he was 67 at the time, he remarried in 1923, his new wife was 34 years old! This union produced 3 more children (he had 3 with his first wife). Harrison, his second son with wife number 2 was born in 1928 and still survives. His first son from the second marriage Lyon lived until 2020!

Talking to some friends about Jimmy at 100, and he says we all become a Number as we get up their in yrs. And then I made the comment that it's a dirty shame today's "rulers" are not like Honest Abe, Lincoln.....

My late mom was a Carter fan and was angry that Reagan beat him in 1980.

Congrats to Jimmy--it's amazing when one makes it to 100, particularly the first former president to do so.

Making it to 100 can be a drag and a real struggle, reading how Jimmy's grandson says he can't speak and that Jimmy didn't speak at his wife's funeral, I question this existence but that is me, and I wonder if Jimmy would want it this way? I have all the papers in order for How I Want It to be for Me.....
