The Duffer Brothers are turning 39 today. The identical twins are pictured above–Ross is on the left and Matt on the right. They were born and grew up in the Durham, NC area.
The Duffers are best known as the creators of Netflix’s Stranger Things. The sci-fi/horror series premiered in the summer of 2016. Four seasons have aired so far, and it will return for a fifth and final season at an as-yet-undisclosed date.

After finishing high school in Durham, the Duffer Brothers studied film at Chapman University in California. While studying there, they began making short films, such as We All Fall Down and Eater. In 2015, they wrote and directed their first feature, Hidden. They then worked as writers and producers on Fox’s Wayward Pines.
During its first four seasons, Stranger Things has been nominated for three Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series, as well as two Golden Globes in the equivalent category. The Duffers have also received multiple Emmy nominations for writing and directing.
The Duffers have a number of projects that are reportedly in development. Among them are a Netflix series adapted from Stephen King and Peter Straub’s The Talisman, and a live-action adaptation of the manga series Death Note.
