Samantha was way, way too old to have an imaginary friend, and she behaved like a total mental patient in that episode.

i did not think of it that way but why was she acting like that

I recently watched this episode on Tubi. I think Samantha was just feeling lonely. Her Mother had passed and her sisters were too busy chasing boys to spend much time with her. They thought of her as a "squirt". In that episode she wanted to go to the lake with Julie who had no interest.

Imaginary friends are popular with little kids but Samantha was too old at that point. Maybe that's a reason the new producers brought in Joey the next season as Samantha was getting too old for some of these plotlines.

There was a scene at the dinner table when Grandpa addressed Debbie Jo. That was pretty funny.
