I enjoy Leave it to Beaver, it's a great show.
I am just curious about some of the character's names. Was Tooey a real name used back in the day?
I know that Lumpy's real name was Clarence. I'm just confused about parents naming their daughter Pudding.
Did you know other people with unusual names?

Does anyone know if Puddin' was a nickname? I usually skip that silly episode.
I've never heard of the name Tooey.
Whitey's real name was Hubert, which wasn't revealed until nearly the end of the series.
There was some other confusion over names, but not nicknames. Fred Rutherford's wife's name was Geraldine in the first season. She was played by Helen Parrish, who died. The character wasn't on again until the third season, with a new first name Gwen/Gwendolyn, played by Majel Barrett. She was again in the final season, still Gwen, played by a third actress.
There was confusion over Beaver's friend Gilbert's last name. He made his first appearance in the second season, when a family named Gates moved in across the street. After that, he was on the show sporadically during seasons two and three, with no last name mentioned. Eventually a few scripts in the fourth and fifth seasons needed a last name; rather than research it, and lacking a series bible for continuity, writers used Harrison.
Eventually, maybe when the show switched production companies in the fifth season, they settled on Bates.
There was a minor adult character very early, "Corny" Cornelius. His real first name might have been mentioned in passing; if so, I don't remember what it was.
Oh, and there was a junk man, again early, Fats. We don't know his real first name, nor his last name.
A friend of Wally's in the fifth season was initially known as Scott; however, later his full name was revealed as Bill Scott.

Oops! We did know Fats' last name.
Also with "Duke" Hathaway (Tommy Ivo) -- I think at some point, even though he was in only two episodes, we somehow found out what his real first name was

Another interesting name: "Chopper" Cooper, whose real first name was Dryden. Played by Barry Gordon.

I had read that once there was a minor softball team that paid homage to LITB. I believe that every player had a nickname tied to the series. In fact, one player had a custom uniform number of “2E.”
