I was looking up cheers websites on the net and i found out (it may not be true) that the beer at cheers was replaced by cream soda so the actors (especially George Wendt) wouldn't get drunk.

I Mean, it could be true. If it probly was beer maybe Norm would of caused a crime or shot someone by any chance.

Only stating my opinion.

No, the beer wasnt real on Cheers. I talk to Shelley Long and she said that they couldnt drink on set at all. But, I do not know what they replaced it with I do not know what they used:)

We did this post once before and never got to the answer. I do remember a Cheers special that was on around the time of the finale. They said it wasn't beer that they used, but a lookalike. They also said, they used something to give the drink that "foamy" look. I'd love to know exactly what that was.

There could've been many different ways for them to imitate beer. I know on some shows they'll make a mixture of different colored sodas to give it a 'beer' look. I know on "Three's Company" they mixed Seven Up with something else and let it set for a day. This would be a very good quesiton that they should cover on any Cheers special in the future.

There's actually a rule that actors are not allowed to be shown drinking beer or any alcohol on TV. So if a show or commercial requires someone to drink beer, it has to be a substitute.
