The CW is expected to drop (https://screenrant.com/cw-shows-slate-2023-details/) even more scripted shows as a new report reveals that the network is expected to lower the number from the original five.
The CW reportedly wants to drop even more scripted shows from the original five. Changes are still coming for The CW after Nexstar acquired (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/the-cw-heather-olander-unscripted-1235315626/) the network (https://deadline.com/2023/02/the-cw-hgaye-hirsch-michael-roberts-executive-departures-nexstar-1235160802/) for 75% ownership in 2022. While WarnerMedia and Paramount still own 25% (for a total of 12.5% each), Nexstar has the majority ownership, taking the network in a new direction. 2022 was a rough year for fans of The CW as the network handed out several cancellations, including multiple Arrowverse dramas. While 2023 is still fresh, The CW's new leadership is looking at additional changes that will likely not sit well with viewers.
A recent report claimed that The CW's future slate would only consist of five original scripted shows. However, the number has now been changed again as The Hollywood Reporter revealed that The CW is expected to only have three shows in the 2023-2024 TV season. This comes shortly after the recent deal The CW signed to air live golf. At the time of the story's publication, Nexstar and The CW have not commented on this report.
