Interesting to contemplate what criteria exactly is used to qualify one as a candybar "expert"?

My guess is if they mention one you happen to like, that makes them "noteworthy", while two or more makes them an "expert"?

My top 5 are Reese's Fastbreak (while I like the regular peanut butter cups Fastbreaks are a lot better), Hammond's brand midnight snack (needs more widely available), fudge Milky Way, Twix, and the Dippin' Dots candy bars Cracker Barrel used to sell (not any more :().

Butterfinger is the best chocolate bar.

Reeses Peanut Butter Cups (although it isnt a cup) is the only right one on the list. Butterfinger also makes their own.

The Japanese for some odd reason love Kit Kat, because of this, there are many strange flavors we do not see in the USA. This includes wasabi and red bean flavors.

The best chocolate company is Dove. Not to be confused with the dishwashing brand.

My favorite is the strawberry chocolate. It is a pink color and just pure heavenly. Their regular chocolate is also fabulous and the company also makes ice cream bars (but not ones made of the strawberry chocolate unfortunatley.

My favorite is Milky Way.

Each year around Halloween in our office, someone puts out oodles of mixed candy bars for everyone to take. Every year, no exception, the last ones left are Snickers.

I'd like to mention that specific brand of candy bar is not nearly as important to me as is having ample remaining shelf life as indicated by the printed "best by:_____" data........ I absolutely loathe stale candy.

I like all of them; Hershey's Special Dark is my least favorite. And ironically, the only one I have in the house right now. :( Oh well, temptation tempered.

When I was young, here are some of the ones I really went after, sometimes using coins I swiped off my dad's dresser:

I'm surprised Hershey and M&Ms aren't on the list. I find Hershey waxy, but it is a world famous Chocolate bar. And M&Ms are world famous Chocolate candy too.

I agree with you. Reese's Fast break is better than Reese's Peanut Butter Cups because Fast break is Nougat, Peanut Butter and chocolate. Reese's peanut butter cups are just peanut and chocolate.

I agree. Their dark chocolate is delicious. Chocolove dark chocolate with cherries and almonds is also yummy. Of the bigger names I still like a plain old Hershey bar, Twix, and Milky Way.

Babe Ruth was a national sensation when the candy bar came out, the manufacturer found a brilliant way of linking the bar to the baseball player without having to pay him for the use of his name. Babe Ruth sued and lost the case but it's pretty clear what actually happened here. Let's take a look at Baby Ruth Cleveland.

Ruth was born on October 3, 1891 and became a national sensation, the public showered her with Christmas gifts and well wishes at the time her father was setting out on his bid to reclaim the White House (Cleveland served two terms but they were not consecutive). Unfortunately Ruth's life was not an easy one, she was a sickly child who eventually passed away of diphtheria three months after her 12th birthday on January 7, 1904.

The claim that the candy bar was named for a child who had been a national sensation 30 years earlier and who had passed away more than 15 years prior to the release of the candy bar doesn't wash. Simply put, Babe Ruth got ripped off.

There was an older friend of my family named Tom (1921-2013) whose dad had been a candy-maker. His family had a chocolate-nougat-peanut recipe, and they produced it as a candy in 2 sizes of bars: "Great Scot" & "Little Scot." Tom once claimed that the Curtiss company (or its predecessor) stole that recipe more-or-less for their use. There may be some validity to that - Curtiss had a longtime Chicago presence as the makers of Baby Ruth, and Tom's family was thereabouts.

Out of this list, I can only tolerate Snickers and Twix. I don't particularly care for wafery stuff, and I get sick eating peanut butter. I don't see how a food item that makes you sick/vomit or you have trouble digesting is going to be declared the "best of all time".

Umm, I grew up in a peanutbutterless world, my Italian home had no PNB, in recent yrs it's been reported the huge allergy issues with peanuts...my grandson going to pre school had to cease PNB sandwiches in his lunch, his mom had to work on that....it can be a very serious health issue for many.

PB Max was cool, but the Mars family reportedly abhors peanut butter. It was discontinued in the 1990s.

I also like the Uno bar and Rocky Road candy bar. I believe that they are produced by the Annabelle company. Unfortunately, I can only find them occasionally at Cracker Barrel in my area, and even then they are limited.

Yes, I meant what I wrote -- the same way you stated that not for a million dollars you would ever use a microwave oven. The 2 things I can't live without are PB and comics (the latter being the "fire hazard" as you commented). I probably go through about 1.5 to 2 lbs of peanuts per week as well.

When I was growing up, I ate peanut butter literally every day, as I wasn't ready for the sauce-heavy Greek dishes. My brother had been started on those at a young age, initially rewarding my parents with more than occasional vomit.

As an adult, since I'm not much of a cook, I eat PB practically every day, usually once a day or so. I have a strong craving if I do go without it for a couple of days, if not less! I'm 6'1 and 210 lbs - lentil soup is not going to satisfy me. I don't go to sit-down restaurants, I don't want to eat alone in one. And I rarely do carryout or drive-thru anymore, those places are always understaffed and a waste of time.

Also, regarding your mention of dentists, I was an avid candy eater as a child but was never taken to a dentist between ages 5 and 14. No cavities.

This is an entertainment site, and threads are often for fun and "silly". But now that this particular thread has taken a "nutty" turn into a medical abstract, I'm done with it. Just remember, LIVING is hazardous to your health. Don't succumb to a doom-and gloom-existence. I'd suggest that you start another thread about severe allergies -- I'll leave it up to others to comment if that content belongs in this one.

If I weighed 180 I would look emaciated. I weighed 185 while still growing, in high school! This is not the Weight thread anyway. Isn't it "silly" for you to judge a person's ideal weight when having never seen the person? I have big feet & ankles that probably weigh 40 lbs together!

When I tell someone about a collection of ephemera that I've worked on since the mid-1970s and has material that goes well back to the 1930s, and that person casually dismisses it as a "fire hazard," it tells me that that person has no respect for what I've done with my life. Three Musketeers used to be a lot different. I found out on Weakest Link last night they originally got their name from having chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. :eek:

I don't usually eat candy but if I did I like Reese’s Sticks and Snickers.

I am not a huge chocolate eater, but I do love Reese's Peanut Butter Cups:)
