CHICAGO — Chicago Blackhawks great Bobby Hull has died at the age of 84, according to the Daily Herald.

Hull is the Blackawks’ all-time leading scorer. “The Golden Jet” helped lead the team to a Stanley Cup title in 1961.

He is considered one of the best hockey players of all-time with 1,170 career points and over 600 goals.


Early last year, Hull was no longer an ambassador for the team. His past had come under scrutiny, including two allegations of domestic violence, first in 1986 by his wife Deborah, which resulted in a conviction of assault against a police officer.

In 2002, more allegations came from his second wife Joanne in an interview for an ESPN SportsCentury documentary.

He was also quoted in 1998 while speaking to a Russian newspaper where he said, “Hitler, for example, had some good ideas. He just went a little bit too far.”

Sad to hear this, I imagine this is pretty big news in Chicago today. Bobby Hull is a NHL legend. Rest in peace Golden Jet.

Bobby Hull was one of the all-time greats in the history of hockey. He ranks right up there with Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr, Mario Lemieux, and Wayne Gretzky as being one of the best ever. His career record includes:

- 1 Stanley Cup - 1961

- 610 career goals, 1170 points

- 2 time winner of Hart Trophy as NHL MVP

- 3 time winner of Art Ross Trophy as NHL scoring champion

- named to NHL All-Star team 12 times

- 3rd NHL player to score 50 goals in a season and the first to get more than 50.

- He and teammate Stan Mikita were credited with inventing the curved sticks that are used by all players today.

- moved to WHA in 1972 with Winnipeg Jets and scored 77 goals in the 1974-75 season to beat the NHL record that had been set by Phil Esposito in 1971. Like all WHA records, the NHL refused to recognize it and treated him as an outcast for the rest of his life.

Bobby Hull is part of one of the prominent hockey families in history. His brother Dennis was his teammate with Chicago between 1964--72 and scored 300 goals over his career.

His son Brett scored 741 career NHL goals including 228 during a 3 year span between 1989-92. Brett joined Bobby as being the first father and son players to win the Ross and Hart Trophies and later become Hall Of Famers.


As for the personal stuff off the ice, I prefer to stay out of it. Yes, I agree that he was no angel and he made some awful mistakes especially in how he dealt with women but I would rather leave those discussions to experts who know more about these things than I do.
